so in the bath last night my big girl asked.... "why have travis got a different bum than me'....

Has anyone else tackled this question yet - successfully - as in without their 2 year old announcing the specifics to everyone - I can just imagine if I give too much info she will run around kindy yelling travis has a diddle

we just said cause boys and girls are different

lol my 6yr old still tells me that I have a diddle (I'm the only female in the house at the moment) The best thing I've found is to just tell them the truth and use the correct names for body parts as well. Sorry I'm not much use

only if she asks for more info. My girl is 3 in march and she seems happy with that. she has asked before about the different parts of my breasts and can say aereola and nipple and knows whats what. its important to keep it age relevant.

I don't think that kids need any further information until a lot older - my DS turned 3 in November - he knows that boys have willys and girls have fannys/front bums! (We also use the correct names as well - but kids think it more fun to say willy!) He knows that girls and boys are different and I think that is all they need to know. If you were to explain anymore than that what would you say?

Our DD referes to "bits" (and this can be on anyone, particularly her cousins as she sees them naked) either as "a Mummys Bumbum" for girls or a "Daddys bumbum" for boys. Sorry I am no help at all, but shes worked out that boys and girls are different and has made her own little pet names ...I am not about to change that either!

I would tell them girls and boys are different and that girls have something called *insert chosen word here * and boys have a *insert chosen word here * ...you don't need to go into too much detail because they will find something else to take their curiosity quickly enough anyway

I just am honest with my 2 year old - I tell him that boys have a penis and girls have a vagina. If you don't make a big deal out of it, they don't either.
However, when we were at the supermarket, he told the check out check "Auntie has a 'gina"!

Mine would do something like that, she is so cheeky!

We have tried the correct names thing, but she still says bum or bottom, so I will leave it at that, Im not really sure what else to tell her, or what I could tell her, I just wondered what other mums do

I would say to tell her what you are comfortable telling her...

The only person I saw naked as a kid was my mum so it wasn't until I was 5 that I realised boys were different! A couple of my friends were the same and I remember us telling a boy the teacher had told us he had to pull his pants down and show us his bits, he did and we were so shocked/scared we ran off crying to the teacher that'd he'd pulled his pants down (he got in a lot of trouble - oops!)

DD has baths with her dad and baths with me and while she is quite young, I have noticed her 'comparing us' so to speak.

We're straight forward about it too, just naming the parts and saying that boys and girls are different because boys will be men some day and girls will be ladies, and men and ladies are different. We haven't added anything to that as yet because there haven't been more questions and our girls are still so young they'd tell everyone haha!! I have shown my DDs some sketch pictures of a baby coming out of a birth canal and they know that men can't have babies.

Hannah's almost 3, she knows that boys have a penis and girls have a vagina.
She knows they're "special and private" and that we don't talk about it unless necessary.

Having said that, our neighbours were over for dinner the other night with their two (boy Hannah's age, girl 18 months younger), all in the bath and Hannah announces to the world that Mason and [neighbour boy] have penises and Hannah and [neighbour girl] have vaginas and they're "secret"
