Radian XTSL RF tether

I installed the my radian in my car yesterday and took it into plunket to check, and they said that wrapping the tether connector around the seat leg is illegal in NZ (even though its following the manual), you need to get the bolt installed instead.

I just had a chat to the carseat lady this morning and she said the law is it must be installed as per manufacturers guidelines BUT that the cops are not familiar with each seat so to keep the manual in your glovebox if its something a bit unusual then you can whip it out and show them if need be

I would go with what the manufacturer has said too - especially since the Radian is so new in NZ, I doubt many Plunket people know much about it.

If you are worried about getting fined, but don't want to get a tether bolt, the Radian does not require tethering whilst RFing to be safe, so you could just fold the tether strap up and tuck it back into its hidey hole on the back of the seat - that way everyone wins!

Yeah Bowie I recommend doing it yourself took my carseat to Plunket to get them to put it back in after our warrant just after DD turned one, and they put it in forward facing even though I said we were going to keep her rear facing - the lady even said "they should be forward facing once they turn one"

And on the original topic, we don't have our radian tethered at all and it's nice and secure (thanks to SoyBasedMama )

just goes to show how unedeucated some plunket nurse are when it comes to carseats. I woul have said that 12 months is the bare minimum that they should be turned t it does not mean you have to turn them then.

I have my sons plunket appointmet when is about 14/15 months be interesting to see if they bring up the carseat thing then. I will just say that I prefer to keep my children rearfacing for as long as possible

yup its fine not to have it tethered. its been tested with and without the tether

TOTALLY a threadjack but it seemed silly to start a whole new thread for this....

aside from plunket, who can do car-seat checks? And baby on the move (thanks Kalimirella) as there is not one locally. We don't have any of the big baby stores, actually - just pumpkin patch and farmers. We have a VTNZ though - do they check?

I installed mine today with great difficulty, and i think its right but the tether strap is probably about 2 inches too short for my big station wagon and i think it *might* be pulling the carseat up a little bit, though i can't be sure....i do know that its got no movement in it at all, can't even lift the corner half a cm to move the carseat cover around so i can't be too wrong, surely!
