We are getting rid of Sky and getting Freeview. Does anyone know if the boxes go on 'sale' or are they a fixed price no matter what?
We were going to make that our xmas present, but am thinking it might be worth waiting until the boxing day sales, but no point if they are not the sort of thing that will be on sale........ (???)

TIA

Pretty much everyone does a deal anyway - I can't remember the last time I paid full price for anything electrical, but we haggled in Harvey Norman - can't recall what the discount was but we certainly got one.

We had a freeview box, we bought it from Freeview Shop we bought it on sale for around $500 and they are a very reputable company. Though we had nothing but issues with Freeview (not the box, something to do with our box and the tv wouldn't work together though no one could work out how or why despite DH being a techno guru) and after trying for months to get it right we ended up ditching it and going back to MySky which is so much better for us.

We brought a freeview box for our bedroom and i'm not that impressed with it!! Half the channels don't work and half the time the channels are "updating" then they don't work and you have to turn everything off then on again. But we got our box from Dicksmith.

Personally I'd stick with sky! Even though they are asses!

Thanks everyone. Unfortunately the budget doesn't allow for $68 a month anymore! Especially with #2 on the way, so Sky is on the way out.
We also only end up watching channels 1, 2 and 3 anyway, so don't see the point in having all the other channels.

Will wait for the boxing day sales anyway and see what's out there, our sky box isn't due back until the 30th.

Free view has always been fine for us. We really stick to 1,2 and 3 and Prime and Kidzone during the day, so don't "need' the bigger choice of channels. No issues with it, either connecting through a box or via the new TV which is digital. And it's free once you install it, which took about five minutes to connect the plugs up. We sold our box on TM when we upgraded the TV so it might be worth a look there, I think it was about $100 when we bought it

We love our freeview. Didn't buy our box from a store as they were too expensive - but I got one off TM brand new for about $65 in the end ($1 reserve auctions). It doesn't have the TV guide, but we just look it up online if we want it. We have had not problems with it and my kids love Kidzone and hubby is happy with Prime - plus he gets way more done on the weekends now he can't watch trashy american reality series repeats for the millionth time!

WE sell them, my husband and myself havea a business. As a rule, they don't go on sale much..as in not laot of % off. Make sure you get a reputable brand, I wouldn't buy off trade me, the technicians hate them as they are difficult to "fix" and need it..best to gt from a store and get your after sale service IMHO.
We sell Strong, they are good as well as Hills.

If you have a PS3 you can buy play TV.

We sold our Freeview on TM, someone got a great bargain as we bought a top line expensive model & used it for a couple of weeks then sold it.

We paid heaps out to get free view as we also need a new aerial.

We've discovered ours wont work cause we don't have the right aerial. Apparently we need an aerial that can tune in CTV (canterbury TV for those not down here) on normal televison, which we don't have. Poos and wees. Guess we are going to have to look into that.
