Hey,

We thought we'd buy some nappies (if they're on a good special) over the next few weeks. We got one pack of 30odd newborn ones with last weeks shopping and then won a pack of 56 Huggies newborn ones at antenatal class on Monday. How many in the newborn size do you think we'd need? I don't want a huge stash but I'd like to have at least enough to tide us over for a few weeks.

Thanks

I have about 280 Which according to my friend will be enough newborn sized, maybe too much by a packet or so. I guess it depends on how big your bubba is in the end, but i am interested in what other people have to say on this

Yeah see I'm confused, at class they said no more than a box (which is 110) but then if you're changing 12 times a day that is only 9 days worth?

It really depends so much on the baby. We hardly used any, Jacob was a chubby boy and was pretty much straight into infant nappies. Smaller babies must use heaps. Also, what brands you prefer really seem to differ per baby - some people swear by Treasures, but they really didn't work for us, for example.

Mmm, maybe I'll only get one or two more packets then and DH will have to go out and get some. No sense in getting way too many (although at the moment I've only spent like $7 or something).

Size is a complete unknown, I was a teeny 5lb 7oz but DH was over 10lb.

My 7lb15oz 57cm long boy was in huggies newborn naps for 5weeks. Treasures a slightly bigger and he could fit them for an extra week or so but they weren't suitable.
I didn't stock up tho, I bought a 30pack before birth thats it. I then just bought the 56 packs as I needed them..

I had a box of huggies & about 5 packets of newborn but we moved onto infant pretty quick and didnt even use a box.

I think infant is from 4kg. So id be more inclined to stock up on them, and least then you know there wont be any wastage.

We also had treasures, but they leaked. I found huggies best for newborn.

Thanks for the feedback, I think maybe I'll buy a couple of different brands of infant ones then and leave it at that for now. I have got some small cloth nappies that I intend on using, but not enough for full time.

Huggies infant is from 5kg. I remember coz DS was 5kg at 5weeks which was when I switched to infant..But IMO I wouldn't 'stock up' on any thing in large amounts. My boy wasn't in infant very long before changing to crawlers. Every baby is so different and you just have no idea how big or small bubby will be..
Once your set in a size then buy some bulk packs. (Thats what I do anyway)
You'll find a system of nappy buying that suits you lol

I'd recommend getting smaller packs of different brands, as you don't know what will suit your baby.

I've tried huggies, treasures and babylove on DD at the start she waas small and treasures fitted her best, as she's filled out huggies are better and they're good for overnight.

they're always on special at the supermarket so its easy to pick up extras as you go

Definitely depends on baby's shape and size... Lily was a long and skinny 6lbs 13 oz baby at birth BUT she gained weight so quick and grew in length slowly that she outgrew NB size by 5 weeks... We went through 2 big boxes of the Huggies NB ones and 2 of the small packs of Trasures Ultra + Giggles (so 4 of their packs in total) plus 1 1/2 packs of the Woolworths Select nappies too (their big NB packs). Not sure how many nappies that was in total thought sorry. Baring in mind that we changed at every feed or when she pooed which worked out at about 10-12 nappy changes a day for the first month really!

Also we only had the 2 big boxes of Huggies - nothing else. Mainly because I wasn't sure if I would like their nappies - I didn't, and also due to sizing.

I don't think i've brought ANY nappies - all my boxes (incl. 2x huggies bulk 108 boxes) were given to me by friends whos bubs outgrew them too quickly. I guess i may end up continuing the chain
Until then, fingers crossed this one fits into Huggies nicely since its pretty much all i've got!

One hint I was giving was instead of stocking up on heaps of nappies with each shop, buy a couple of packets of each type, then buy a $10 voucher for the supermarket with each shop, then when baby is born you can go get a few packets in one go and not worry about spending all grocery money on just nappies

We had a jumbo box of huggies and hated them so I ended up giving some away and insted bought a couple of differnt brands. My fav are Babylove. treasures are not to bad, but won't buy them again either.
So I would not buy too many as you may find you don't like them or they don't fit your baby really well.
Here we go again, another baby on it's way!

DD is still in newborn size at 6 weeks as she's a small baby. She gets changed at every feed sometimes twice as she'll pee mid change!
That's 8-10 nappies per day.

Changing 12 times a day - maybe if you're using cloth but very unlikely if you're using sposies.

I definitely changed 12 times a day - maybe more. Depends on bubs - cos she seemed to do lots of small poos. Even during the night when I got up to feed sometimes I would have to change a couple of times.

Cos we were going through so many I just got the cheap treasures giggles and found them fine.

I would say 10 a day, but I only used newborn for 2 weeks, the next size up starts at 4kg so if you end up with a big baby (mine was 4.05kg) newborn wont last long and its a pain of you have hundreds

Yeah, we were 12 a day on sposies - DD was like a poop machine! Every nappy change and it would just keep coming and coming and coming...
