Topic: HELP - Hot Nursery Posted: 30 November 2010 at 3:26pm |
Hi all
OK, so you may have noticed that summer seems to arrived a tad early and lovely as that is, our apartment is scorchio!
We rent, so we don't have too many options, but we need a way to cool down the boy's room. It's an internal room (no open windows). We tried a fan last night, but he didn't like it. I tired stripping him right down, but he couldn't sleep naked. So I just dressed him in his gown and ended up feeding him every time he woke up (to quench his thirst).
Can anyone recommend a quiet, portable, economical air con unit?

I think I'd try and persevere with the fan. Perhaps have it on in the living room in the day, so he get's use to it. We tried a portable air con unit last year (before we got our place insulated) and it was the nosiest thing I'd ever heard! Ten times noiser than a fan .
Sorry, no other suggestions!

Yeah I'd keep persisting with the fan. He'll get used to the noise. We've had to bring our pedestal fan in from the garage for DS room due to the heat.

I like the suggestion of having it in the lounge during the day. I would add try to make sure its not blowing on him at night as he may not be liking that. So maybe put it facing a wall so it keeps the air cooler but not directly on him.

Could you move DS into another room with a window on the hottest nights? In a portacot in the lounge maybe?

Unfortunately our apartment is on a busy and noisy road, so although he'd be cooler if he slept in our room with the doors open, the noise would just wake him up.
We had some success with the fan last night though

Definitely a downside of this lovely weather! We use the fan and the white noise of it actually helps... her room is still 25 degrees plus though until at least 10pm.. its hard without the sleeping bag sleep cue (not to mention it stops some of the climbing about).
Fingers crossed the fan keeps working for you.

Here is Brissy we get into the high 30's and sadly we dont have air con upstairs. So In Jackson's room he has a ceiling fan (which is on 24/7) and on really hot days (when it gets over 30 degrees) I put an extra floor fan on him. He has vertical blinds, a block out blind (only used over night) and a normal curtain. The blinds and curtains always stay closed during the day to keep as much heat out as possible.
They do adjust to the heat. Jackson was still wrapped during summer last year so once he fell asleep I slightly loosened the wrap so the air would flow. He did still wake hot and sweaty though. He was often wrapped in just a nappy.
