Question (for teachers??)

I am guessing that this doesn't *really* matter but thought I would ask!

Jackson has an amazing memory and is currently obsessed with a wooden puzzle where the pieces spell out his name. He's quickly memorised the letters in his name. He LOVES puzzles so we thought we'd get him an alphabet puzzle. He'll love it and it will be a chance for him to start learning to recognise his letters.

Do you think I should get a lower case puzzle or an upper case puzzle?

His name puzzle is mostly lower case so was thinking that would be best so as not to confuse him. Thinking about it - what a pain that upper and lower case letters are different!!!

thats interesting thanks for the info. i have just starting trying to teach Ella the alphabet and was wondering the same thing.

*Blush* this was us! While we taught Ollie both upper and lower cases we always wrote his name in upper letters. It didn't take long to undo our mistake, thank goodness.

Yep definitely lower case, there's a font you can get for your computer (sorry I don't know where from but our kindy got it) that looks like New Zealand handwriting the way the kids should be learning it- great for labels, flashcards, etc. Maybe a teacher would know where from? You could print off letters of the alphabet or their names etc & get it laminated so they can practice by tracing around the letters with a whiteboard marker.

Biggest mistake I ever did was teach my oldest her name in uppercase. It took longer to unteach it than it would have to leave her to it and learn at the regular pace with people who actually know what they are doing. lol. Here was me thinking I was doing her a favour.

I got a puzzle - lower case. The one I really liked had the 'A' like it comes out on computer fonts - with the flicky thing on top. Which didn't seem that useful really. But I found another one that had the 'A' as it would be taught at school.

I also second the lower case alphabet it can take ages for some children to re adjust if they have been taught capitals only.

a font that is good is the comic sans one as it does the a properly e.g.

a (wrong) - also make sure the know this g as well as the one with a curly tail iykwim
