Hi all

DH and i just went out to the movies- first time since Evie was born, she is 12 and a half weeks now. My mum and dad came down to watch her, bath and bottle her. things went well. i left 3 entire pages of instruction.
Just wondering when others took there first baby free outing and if anyone else wrote half a novel of information :) people mocked me but it seemed so normal?

Wow you've done well to get out when bub is only 12wks old! I think DS was about 7mths before I left him. The grandparents came and babysat and yes I left them a page long list of instructions! DH and I went out for dinner and were back after 2hrs cos we were so tired we just want to go to bed! (DS was still waking 4hrs overnight at that stage)

Hope you enjoyed your time together I think it's so important.

Hi Mrs B

yer, i was saying to DH maybe it was a bit early :) We were out for a movie and ice cream. 'Granny' was super keen to bbs, but i think she was thrown when Evie cried after her bath :) poor thing.
But DH and I have been snapping at each other for the fortnight so we needed to get out!
Glad im not the only one with instructions :)

Go you The first time we left DS with someone else other than at day care was when he was 12 months old Albeit, we dont have family here to leave him with, otherwise it would have been sooner.

Pleased you had a good night out. DH and I had a lunch date on Thursday for the first time in, forever. Was lovely

Go you! Lily was about 4 months I think and we only went for an hour lmao to go go kart racing! She decided she didn't want a bottle of EBM and was quite happy to wait until I returned and boy, I got the biggest smile ever!

We've since been out a couple of times since but usually for no more than an hour - hour and a half. We're BFing and she doesn't like EBM and not sure how long she'd be willing to wait iygwim! Would love to go to the movies... I haven't been since Dec and we used to go once or twice a month depending on what was on!

ETA: I didn't leave instructions for MIL - she has had 3 babies but I did leave verbal instructions for my mum who only has me... lol

Wow! Go you guys! That's amazing.

I think our DD was about 5 months when we had an hour out while asleep for lunch. Then it was about 10 months before we went out for a night. Still haven't had anyone else put her to bed as am BF before bed still.

I just said call us if she cries and doesn't go back to sleep, but we don't go out till bubs is alseep, so is easy. If we didn'r would write down routine.

my mother used to leave five mins away from a picture theatre so when gabriel was a wee baby we would go there and i would feed him and put him to bed, go watch a movie and be home quite often before he had even woken up. i never left written instructions though. just my mobile number.

Man, I'm so jealous! he's 10 month old and we STILL haven't been out together yet
No grandparents live in Auckland where we are and no one else I'd really ask to to babysit. Sigh...
Think we might go stay with the GP's and go out from there.

Go you! It was much longer before I let Nana babysit too. And yes, I used to write a looooong list of instructions before every time. In fact they STILL have a page of instructions for when he stays the night there (but that's mainly what creams to use where and how much antihistimine/pamol to give and in what circumstances, blah blah blah...lol)

I left my kids with my mum as soon as she offered to have them.
Practically skipped out the door , crying "im free ! Im free "
no, not really, but C was going to her dad's from a month old without me, and as far as my mum is concerned, I have no doubts she will be able to look after them fine without any problem, besides, im far too lazy to write instructions

I think Brooke was about 12 weeks old when we left her for the first time with my parents.  I'm pretty sure I would have spelt out the routine, but can't remember - so sleep deprived at the time!

We went for a lovely Sunday drive and an ice cream.  The feeling of freedom was incredible!

1st time we left Riley with someone was my folks at 4 1/2 weeks old coz it was mine and DPs 1 year anniv. we went to a movie then DP took me clothes shopping and i tried really hard to not tx or ring. which i didnt and was proud of myself lol. was only about 4 hours and R slept the whole time for them.

since then have done 2 or 3 day drops at mum n dads so we could paint rooms in the house.

gave really basic instructions (eat, play nap, keep upright after feed. dummy in bag. extra change of clothes if he poo-splodes. this much in his bottle.) and that was it. was more lax about it than i though id be.

oh and we do date night every 2nd Wednesday (we go to quiz night with a few other couples) and normally take him (he made his own wednesday routine so he could stay up and play with everyone when we got there then fall asleep on me lol) but now his wednesday routine is the same as the rest of his week so getting a babysitter tomorrow night for the first time lol. its only 2 hours and at the pub at the bottom of the hill, but will be nice to not have to worry because he will be home in bed.

I didnt leave DD for the 1st time until 11 months because we had a 21st to go to. She wouldnt settle and i ended up picking her up at 12am lol.

She has been babysat a few times since then overnight, but i stress out so much from leaving her sometimes i figure its just not worth it

I'm the same monikah...the girls were about 8-10 weeks old when we left them the first time to go to speedway, and went almost every weekend after that as well. Yep, I left a list of instructions, but they were on meds after leaving NNU so it was mainly to do with giving them, rather than how to look after them! And because they were in NNU, they weren't with me 24/7 for the first 4 1/2 weeks of life anyway.

We left Jude with good friends and my sister for the evening to go to a Pearl Jam concert for the evening when he was around 9-10weeks old (I thought it was 3 months/12weeks but just looked at the dates and apparently not!). He was sleeping through the night at that stage so we left at around 5pm and Jude went to sleep around 9-10pm and didn't wake up again until 7am that morning so luckily for them they didn't have to get up during the night (though we were back by 12-1am).

Before that he had been left with his grandparents (who were visiting and DP was at work) at 2 weeks old for half an hour while I went to get my eyebrows and eyelashes done. And had been left with DP for the afternoon for the first time at around 6 weeks old.

However, at that stage we were living at the other end of the country to both of our families and didn't have many close friends in that part of the country so other than the Pearl Jam concert we didn't go out together for around 9 months. Even now that we live much much closer to our families and are totally comfortable leaving Jude with them, and had thought we would like to have a date night every month - it hasn't ended up working out like that. Should really get onto that next date night! Maybe next month

ETA - and we left a long list of instructions with the friends and my sister (and would have with anyone at that age and leaving him for that long). We don't now though.

We first went out when DD was about a month old. We left her with my Mum for a few hours while we went to the v8's with VIP entry through DH's work. Then at 2 months we left her overnight at my Mum and Dads which was great. I did really miss her though.

My friend looked after our son when I came home from the hospital after having a c section Dh left her money so they can order pizza and paid her a hourly rate if was expensive but well worth it as we trust her.

She looked after them when they were 6 and 10 months I think and left her a whole page on what to do on what time they go to bed etc and she found it great. We haven't been out since as she has moved to Oz and my SIL was living in a small 2 bedroom unit she has a spare room and there was no way we want them staying over there without a room for them. She has now got  a much bigger place so might have to call on her and get her to look after them so we can have a night out.
