Topic: Great Plunket Family Centre experience Posted: 30 September 2010 at 5:16pm |
I just wanted to let anyone struggling know that I had a fantastic morning at the Plunket Family Centre today!
We booked in to get me off the nipple shield - and so I spent about 4 hours there so he could have 2 feeds with their support. The nurse was also a lactation consultant, and helped me figure out the best way for DS to stay latched on. It was great, he seems to be getting so much more milk now!
They then helped with his sleep (which to be honest is not going so great now that we are home, it was perfect there and now has all gone to custard!!)
But it was such a lovely warm environment, there were 2 other mothers there, and all our babies were the same age roughly, so we were all paying attention to what the other was told and chatted while they slept. The nurses even gave us home-made muffins for morning tea (and the recipe when I asked!) and home-made vege soup for lunch! Such a wonderful service!
So I thought I'd post this here in case anyone is struggling with anything and doesn't know where to go for help, I would definitely recommend them!

Hi there, are you talking about the Family Centre on Shakespear Road in Taka? Sounds like the same wonderful experience I had there - was also given a yummy lunch of soup and muffins
I was there to reintroduce my DS to breast again after a few weeks on the bottle only and they were great. They were very patient with me, helped him to sleep (which wasn't a prob for us) and allowed me to chill and chat with the other mums. I will defo be going back to them in the future.

The ladies at Landscape Rd are lovely - I went with O when he was very little and we were having major feeding issues, and they actually sent me to bed and woke me up with a cup of tea! I spent 3 days over a period of a few weeks there, and they were awesome!

I knew you were talking about Landscape Rd as soon as I read this! Jane is especially sweet and helped heaps with feeding when my baby was just 2 weeks. 10 minutes with her was a lot more helpful than all the conflicting advice I got just after birth! (or it could be my mind was just in a more reasonable state 2 weeks later to absorb information haha!). Either way - totally recommend the family centers.

Yes, it was Jane! I was so glad she didn't just grab my boob and Quinn's head and shove them together like the midwives did in hospital!

Great that you had a good day Jade. I could not have survived without the ladies at the Landscape Rd family centre when I had Elle - so fantastic.

Hi everyone, did you know the Manurewa Centre hours are being reduced to only 2 days a week?
I've just started a petition to keep the hours to 4 days:
https://www.change.org/p/plunket-keep-plunket-family-centre-manurewa-hours?recruiter=360503688&utm_source=share_petition&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=share_email_responsive
Would appreciate if you could sign it and share it.
Cheers
