Topic: Not currently TTC but feel pregnant Posted: 18 September 2010 at 1:28pm |
Hi everyone, been craving some advice so thought I'd join up here and see what others had to say :)
Been on the pill (Monofeme) for a month and a half - my partner Michael has been working overseas for 6 months and returned on the 5th of this month at last. Had sex everyday (without condoms) since, often more than once including during period (TMI sorry!) which finished a week and a half ago. Noticed earlier in the week heavier discharge, since about midway through the week I have had lower abdominal pain to some extent most of every day, having massive mood swings (having tantrums, feeling angry and agitated but not knowing why, bursting into tears over nothing, then being fine again in moments). Vomited Wednesday night - it has just occurred to me that that will have mucked up the pill (as I forgot to use condoms after) but I can't possibly be feeling pregnancy symptoms since then (can I?).
I hate, hate, hate dessicated coconut - but yesterday and today I have had an unfathomable need for coconut and chocolate, have been eating blocks of Cadbury Coconut Rough so frantically I have eaten bits of the tinfoil wrapper by mistake! Also bread dipped in ice cream seemed like a really good idea - but couldn't select the 'right' ice cream flavour.
Feeling very fatigued and teary, memory loss too, BUT
I took a test this morning which was negative. Went to family planning clinic to ask them about blood testing, receptionist said I sounded pregnant but as she wasn't a nurse she couldn't really say, and that I should wait a week and get a blood test.
Have spoken to my mum and she thinks it could all be in my head - which isn't too ridiculous, being a generally clucky person anyway, and having Mike so recently returned.
I know I just need to wait and get a blood test but I feel crazy at the moment. Any reassurance or words of wisdom would be so appreciated!
Surprisingly, Mike has been very calm about any possibility of pregnancy.

The only way to know for sure is through a blood test. I am surprised the receptionist said that.
If AF finished 1&1/2 weeks ago you may be coming up to your fertile time now...depending on your cycle. The discharge could of been left over from AF.
Pg symptoms usually occur after late in the cycle or after AF is missed. PG symptoms are so much like everything else so it is hard to confirm them prior to a test.
I would go to a Dr to get assessed as it could be something that needs medical attention.... I think it is too early to say pg tho

If AF was a week and a half ago sounds like you would be coming up to ov so I wouldn't think you are pg. Unless AF wasn't AF but bleeding in early pregnancy. Only way to know is get a BT really so if you can't wait then just go to your GP and ask them to do one if FP won't do it.
Just thinking that if you only just started on the pill 6 weeks ago, perhaps the moods swings are from that? I never took the pill so don't really know how it can affect you, but given it any sort of medication can affect your moods.
In terms of the funny cravings, it is pretty rare for that to kick in so early.
I hope you find out either way soon as not knowing does drive ya nuts!

The pill gave me crazy "preg" symptoms after I had my second baby.
I would feel sick like morning sickness, had the metal taste in my mouth, got cramps, increased discharge etc, all things I had when pregnant! but I never was pregnant.
Around my ovulation time, I get lots of discharge, and cramps and often feel a bit sick, then once Ive ovulated that goes away.
I would say your not pregnant as AF only finished a week and a half ago, you generally ovulate 14 days into your cycle, and you wouldnt get a positive test until about 14 days post ovulation.
ETA - Also cravings dont kick in until you are at least 6 weeks pregnant. When I was pregnant with my daughter I craved chocolate milk as it helped my mornign sickness.

I get 'morning sickness' and other preggy symptoms because of taking the pill. Although I think if you've had hyperemesis (which I did) you are more likely to have those sort of side effects if you take the pill. If you are not pregnant it might be worth talking to your GP about switching to another to try.

So I don't know quite how it happened but it turns out I am pregnant! Ultrasound tech says it looks like we conceived the day Mike returned from overseas and we are now 8 weeks pregnant. Thanks for all the advice everyone :) We found out about three weeks ago so still adjusting but getting excited.
