I just brought a Manduca so that I could back carry my 15month old (I am tired of her clinging to my legs! )

I read the instructions and it says that you can only back carry after 8kgs. She's a little dot - only 7kgs.

I am tempted to ignore this and use it anyway - she's very strong - hardly a floppy newborn! I only want to do the back carry.

Anyone else back carried before 8kgs? Is there a safety issue that I am missing?

Thanks

Hi ya

I don't have a manduca but I do have a Mei Tai and my daughter is nearly 8 months and not quite 8 kg and I do a back carry. Another girl on here has an 11 month old that is about the same weight as my girl and I know she does back carry too, I don't see where there would be an issue I would think it was only if your child doesn't have good head control still throws themselves back accidently that it would be an issue.

Hope that makes sense.

ETA the other girl I was talking about has a Manduca too

I have a manduca. DS has only just got to 8kg and I've been back carrying in it since I got it (about a month ago).

Like Bex said, as long as she has good head control I wouldn't be too concerned. You can always put the sleeping hood on if you want/she'll let you (DS hates it).

I have a Manduca (amongst other things) and I have been back carrying my 1 year old in it for quite a while, and she is not even 8kg yet I don't think - I started back carrying her in a mei tai when she was 5 months old (so even smaller, don't know exactly what she weighed though). As the others have said, as long as your baby has good head control you'll be fine.

I back carry DD in the manduca. She is probably nearly 8kg, but certainly wasn't when I started. The only problem we have is DD gets frustrated sometimes that she can't see much from there - especially things (piglets) on the ground, and things in front of me when I'm cooking tea or similar.

I've found the hip carry really handy in the Manduca too. More for when I'm pottering around home and DD wants to watch everything, but having her on my front gets her in my way.

Thanks.

I thought it would be ok (she is very strong and has been walking for over 4 months)

But I just thought I would check to see if there was a safety thing I was missing.
