Hi All. Another newbie here, still unsure to whether I 'need' to be here or not, but thought somebody may be able to help. DH and I aren't actively TTC, yet not 'not trying' if that makes sense. I've only come off the Pill at the start of the year, and as a result AF is still a bit 'hit and miss'.

The last couple of weeks have felt really tired, nauseaous (sp?) crampy and breasts were a tad tender. I thought that maybe it could be PMT/PMS but after 4 days of cramping nothing happened, until day 5, and then only for like 1/2 a day. A week on I still feel the same, if not worse.

I took the bull by the horns to eliminate possibilities and ended up mucking up the test, so did another one this morning (bought a twin pack by mistake). I left it for 5 minutes and went back to it, and 2 pink lines were there suggesting a positive result, but after re-reading the info it said that 'After 5 minutes, a negative sample may appear to be weakly positive, therefore any interpretation read after 5 minutes must be considered invalid.' So does this mean that the result is/could be wrong, because I was maybe 20 seconds over the 'maximum time'?

Now to top it all off, it looks as though I have started to 'spot'. No wonder I'm confused

I would say that 20 seconds over wouldn't be that much to alter the test but with the spotting, now I'm not sure either! Why don't you test again tomorrow if AF hasn't arrived yet?

I wouldn't think 20 sec would make much of a difference either but I would test again tomorrow like busymum suggested.

I'd be inclined to think it's a positive test, and probably wouldn't be able to wait until tomorrow

But, yes, ditto what busymum said - test again.

Don't forget that a *lot* of women still get patches of bleeding etc early in pg.

My old neighbour didn't find out she was pg until she was 5 months - her periods continued completely as normal!

You can goto the dr to test and it should be nearly free as comes under matenity and will be free if the result is positive. Call your dr and ask as may save you money on buying a new test.

Yeah I had light spotting like that which I thought was my period (I'd only come off the pill the month before) but it turned out it had actually been implantation spotting. With the nausea, tenderness etc, I'd be inclined to think the test was right, but like everyone suggested it wouldn't hurt to do another one just to make sure.

I had spotting the day after I found out I was pregnant with the gremlins...

I would say too that if you can see the line without squinting it's probably a positive - evap lines are usually pretty faint and you have to really concentrate to see them.

Ok you have encouraged me to post my situation too (thanks for your advice over the last few days Jezsika)!!

I am in exactly the same position as you MonicaMouse except that AF is now well over a week late and I have had two BFN tests!!!

My symptoms are now extremely sore/aching boobs, nauseaus, feeling crampy, massive breakout on my face and chest (I never get pimples), and just generally feeling pretty crap actually and also the fact I have missed AF, which just does not happen to me!

Sometimes I start to think gosh is this all in my head, but then my boobs start aching and I then KNOW that its not - how stressful for us newbies!!!

And then I start to think, well if I am not actually pregnant, why do I feel so crap, I am a newly-wed I should be feeling great!!!!!

Have you recently come off the pill or anything hormonal like that?

Otherwise I guess you could go to the Doc and ask for a blood test, I'm not quite sure how that works, you could ask Kazzle as she recently did that.

No been off the pill for over a year (just been using "other" contraception)!!
Went to the doctor, he said it could be either your pregnant (obviously) or the AF no show could be emotional stress from the wedding. He didn't really encourage a blood test, if I am pregnant it will be extremely early, so that could be the reason for BFN to date, but I just thought I would test anyway!
So I am playing the waiting game at the moment and am re-testing this weekend. Hopefully we'll get an answer then!

Peachy - if you are late I would push for the blood test as you still would want to know if you are pregnant! Some people don't get positive test results till they are very late also.

When i first tested with Kobe it was a very faint pos, i remember going to the doctors and they did a pee test and it took over 5 minutes for it to come up positive but that was because i was only really just preg but they didnt say to me oh no its been over 5 minutes so it must be false and well obviously it was sweet! So yep i would say it sounds all good to me!

*update*

Rung DH at work at told him what the 'situation' was. He bought another test home, which we've (what do i mean we've? - I've!) done. It looks at though we're heading off to the doctor next week, as we think that this one has come up with a positive result as well.

Thanks heaps for all your suggestions and support today, it really meant a lot that I could discuss this with people who have been there - or are going thru and I don't have to bowl up to a pregnant friend 'expose' myself.

I have a mate that took about 5 or 6 home test that all come up negative but still had no af. It wasnt until she went to the doc and had a blood test she found out she was preg so i would recomend getting it confirmed by the doc if you still have symptoms

*Friday Update*

We decided that we couldn't wait until next week, so have ended up visiting a local midwife centre.

It looks as though I'm probably 7 - 7 1/2 weeks along! The result came up nice and strong! (I also think it came up rather quick!)

It still seems a bit surreal at the moment, and I don't think that it's really hit home yet.

*toddles off to read a lot more info about food and wellbeing*
