Topic: When do you test & why? Posted: 05 August 2010 at 4:41pm |
Hi,
Being a first timer I was wondering about timing for testing....
FF suggests 18DPO for me being my first cycle, but was thinking about testing a bit earlier (not too much earlier).
Have had a look through forums and see that people have got BFP as early as 8 days, but some people tend to wait quite a bit longer, even after TTC for quite a while....
Was interested in people's thoughts and reasons for their testing on particular days?

For my BFP I tested at 16DPO, by then I knew I had a 14 day LP, and AF was 2 days late.
I had tested earlier than that during TTC and gotten -ve results followed by AF 1-2 days later.
Getting -ve HPTs sucks, which is why I waited.
Some ladies of course aren't that patient, and if you are UTD some of th HPTs can pick up HCG levels at 9DPO.

Bahaha I was/am a serial tester I try to wait until 12DPO but often cave about 10 or 11DPO The disappointment does suck big time though so I should really just wait until 14/15DPO!
lol peaches21, love your work

I guess it depends on what your cycles are like ...if you have a long LH then testing before AF could show a pos result mine is about 12days & I have only got pos results when AF is late.

With DD I tested at 13DPO, which is a day late for me, and even then I only tested because I was charting and my temps went back up, when they would normally stay down.
This time I knew we had a chance, and my temps were staying up way above coverline, so i tested a lot earlier than I usually would at 8DPO (only because I was peeing lots, and feeling a little 'off' plus peer pressure in the charting thread ) which was BFN, then on 10DPO got an extremely faint BFP
After my scan, and looking at my chart again, I believe I ovulated 2 days later than marked on my chart, which means I got the BFP on 8DPO, BUT my HCG levels have been tracking pretty high for gestation so that could by why.

Thanks for all the replies!!!! Very interesting opinions....
I didn't know about Chemical Pregnancies, googled it, and I understand why people test later to avoid dissapointment...
FF suggests I test 3 days after AF is due, but I'm thinking day after which would be 15DPO.
I am pretty patient so hopefully should last okay to then - unless AF comes first....
Thanks ladies
