Hi kitykaty, welcome to OB!
I have PCOS, and am in the fairly early stages of TTC, but I knew I had it before we started trying.
PCOS manifests in different ways for different people. Some have fairly normal cycles where others (like mine) are virtually non-existent. If you do have a fairly regular cycle, just start keeping track of it and work out length, and when to BD etc. then if you have had no luck after a few months make an appointment with your GP or OBGYN.
If you don't have a regular cycle I suggest making an appointment with a doctor and go in and discuss your options.
A lot of woman with PCOS conceive naturally without any medical help.
I was pretty pessimistic about our chances of conceiving naturally, and as we were already talking with the doctor about my PCOS when we decided we wanted to TTC we were able to discuss our options then and there. We decided to go private (even though we can't really afford it, we didn't want to sit on public waiting lists forever), and were recommended a good OBGYN by our GP. I've been put on a drug called Metformin to balance my hormones and hopefully regulate my cycle. I'm also having day 21 blood tests to see if I am ovulating, if not then I will be put on Clomid to stimulate ovulation. If none of that works (fingers crossed it does) I will get referred on to a fertility specialist.
The key is to get a good understanding of where you're at and what your options are. After that, it's the same as everyone on the TTC journey - lots of waiting and hoping!
Good luck!

Hi kitykaty,
I too have PCOS but thought I would share a good news story.
I have known I have had PCOS for about 5 years now, and my cycles are very irregular. I had never started to track if I was OV or not but I assumed I wasn't.
I am very much a planner and me and DP had decided that I would come off the contraception and start trying early 2011, knowing that I could still have some difficulties getting PG.
However to my complete surprise someone somewhere decided to send us a miracle baby, and I am currently PG, with the PCOS and the contraception the odds were definitely stacked against us, but I am now expecting our miracle child.
So even when you think something like PCOS is going to rock your world, and affect your abillity to have kids, keep hope as miracles can happen, and if not these days the types of medical help they can give women like us means that our deams of having a baby can be a reality

Hi there, I have PCOS, very irregular cycles.. When we decided we were ready to start trying I was already seeing a specialist about funny bleeding, pain (suspected endo at that point) and PCOS so we waited until after I'd had laproscopic surgery (confirmed endo and removed two uterine fibroids) before relly trying. My specialist had said to give myself a good 6 months to let things settle down after the surgey before worrying about it, by which time hopefully I would have had two cycles, got an idea of how things were going and start bloods etc to see if I was ovulating. Well, I had a cycle 3 months after surgery and then obviously another one about 5 weeks later because suddenly I was pregnant. I think the key thing for me was that after my surgery i had started taking metformin again....i'd been off it for three years because i have super bad tummy and bowel trouble with it, but when i had taken it previously my cycles were regularly 5-6 weeks (which for me was as regular as it's ever got) so I had another crack...so I'd say if you're not already taking it or have tried but found it too difficult, have another go....it's a great place to start. My other advice would be to not get too worried to start with - as someone else said some people with PCOS have less trouble conceiving than people without it...I know I'm one of the lucky ones (not much more than three months of trying) but have faith, you could be too!

I also have PCOS and managed to get pregnant with twins on a one night woopsie with my hubby lol so theres definitly hope I usually only get 3 or 4 periods a year they are so irregular :(
We are now trying for number 3 and have been for a few months. I'm certainly finding it harder this time round. I guess since it just happened so easy last time I was expecting the same this time. We did actually fall pregnant a few weeks back but miscarried.
Anyhoo I'm not sure theres much you can do. Charting may help you keep track of when your ovulating. I started to chart but then decided it wasn't for me so we are taking a more relaxed approach. If I'm not pregnant in another 6 months we will take it to the next level but right now I know I can get pregnant so I'm not too stressed.
Best of luck with your journey I hope you get a BFP soon

Unfortunately my good news story has a sad ending as I am currently going through a MC.
However as lisa85 talked about I too am focussing on the fact that I know I can get pg, so hopefully nature will take it's course again soon.

Hi,
I found eating low gi and eliminating coffee helped me the most. We tried numerous routes of drugs, and chinese herbal remedies, but they all seemed to work one month and not the next. And none of the doctors could say for sure why it was so random.
However once I was low gi, no coffee, I ovulated 3 months in a row! And have a monkey of a son as a result.
It can be a hard road, but I know a lot of PCOS sufferers who have "accidentally" conceived too!
