DD is 13months old and very agile, she gets herself into the most unbelievable places. At the moment we manage it by moving chairs away from tables etc, but I really feel like I can't take my eyes off her for a second. I realised the other day that as soon as she works out that she can move the small chairs, we will have a problem.

She is particularly bad at the supermarket - those trolley restraints will not hold her, no matter how tight I make the strap. She is little (only 7kg) which means she can wiggle out of them. I have been putting her in the main part of the trolley, but she is a pain in there (keeps thowing things out, and climbs on the grocerys)

Anyone have any tips?

We're not at this stage yet - so please take this advice with a grain of salt;
Maybe try a separate set of reins in the trolley - the harness I have for the high chair could quite easily be used in the supermarket trolley (well its my plan for when he gets too wriggly) I think you can get them at baby factory and the like.

thats a god idea little star - i was going to say the same thing. otheriwse you just have to fall back on the standard - distraction! in the supermarket have things to give her like snacks and toys... at home you just have to be consistent with climbing and put her back when she does it... if you have a doorway to the kitchen it might pay to put up a barrier. i dont kow how many times i caught my lot sitting on the kitchen table eating out of the fruit bowl... so i had to remove the bowl and they stopped climbing up there.

Oh I sympathise as i have a climber. It is terrible but really cool when you are somewhere they can climb.
I have no solutions but really wanted to emphasis how important it is with a climber to either attach bookcases to the wall or put them somewhere were she can't climb them. I walked into a room one day and my boy was standing on a bookshelf that was over 6foot tall and it could have tumbled on him. All bookshelves are secured now.
I have a freind who lost her baby with a bookshelf climbing incident.
Sorry this post wasn't meant to give you more to worry about. LOL.
I joined a little gym to give my boy a place where he could climb and now when he climbs I tell him 'this isn't the gym, we don't climb at home.'. It does work with reasonable results.

Thanks everyone.

Littlestar - I will have to look into one of those harnesses. Either that or an Ergo style backpack for shopping. Does anyone know if these are easy to put on and off?

Bizzy - I have tried toys - they just get thrown from the trolley. Unfortunately DD is still not eating any solids (long story!). Maybe that is the problem - she is bored??? . At home I have secured what I can, but we have an island bench top - so can't block the kitchen at either end.   At the moment she keeps climbing into drawers, and I am worried that she will tumble onto the hard floor. Not much I can do but watch her like a hawk.

First - we have secured our bookcases, but might have a look at some of the other pieces of furniture. We have been doing baby gym for a while now. I am starting to think that might be the problem. .

I just can't wait till she gets to the point where I can reason with her a little...

She seems to be intolerant to everything. At the moment she is exclusively BF. She would love to eat, but every time we try solids she screams for up to 6 hours at night and loses weight.

I think I will need to lock off a few more drawers though. She gets into WAY more stuff than DS ever did!

have you tried giving her finger foods, pieces of pear or apple for example to just start with or have you just tried purees?

Just purees - at the moment we are trialing 1 tsp (and it is not going well!). When I tried chucks of pear it passed through her undigested.

We are sticking with purees at the moment as it is easier to measure quantity eaten and easier to put her meds in.

Re the ergo - we've got one but I don't feel confident enough to back carry yet - front carry is super easy to get him in and out of. I would suggest looking at slingbabies website or going to one of the meetings in Auckland if you are from that end of the world - that way you could try a few different ones out.
