 Topic: Ideas for his birthday

Hi guys, Im just needing some ideas for Oscar's second birthday. It is on this saturday (the 17th of feb) but i dont know what to do. We are going to be having a BBQ and cake and fairy bread and birthday food you know how it is but what can i actually do other than that? I was thinking i should get pin the tale on the donkey and things but in reality it wont happen...Oscar has little control of limbs so probably wouldnt be able to do it...Well not probably he wouldnt. And then all the other kids are about 1 (some a little younger and some a little older)
Im stumped. PLEASE HELP!

I think what you have planned is all great already. If you do lots more your child might be too overwhelmed.
How about those big shell things for a sandpit or something? Otherwise I just bring out all the old toys and let the kids have fun.
Hope you have lots of fun and enjoy it.

yeah i would just gather up all the toys you can and let them go for it. Maybe have heaps of bubbles on hand so they can go crazy with blowing bubbles. At that age they are still happy to just do whatever i reckon. I know Kobe was easily pleased last year, this year he has his heart set on a thomas tank engine party and well we have gone a bit overboard with the theme  even hired two ride on trains and a thomas tank engine bouncy castle.

OH MY GOD how exciting! That sound like so much fun.
I was thinking of getting him one of those shells for his birthday anyway because he really loves the sand box at preschool!

And little kids love to play with balloons too. Don't overdo it, keep it fun and relaxed, it sounds like it's already going to be a great time! 
One thing to bear in mind for little ones' party games is that at this age they are very co-operative (for my DD's recent party we have a co-operative treasure hunt - one named thing for each person). The competitive thing is closer to 4 or 5.

We didn't have games etc. but like Liz suggested bubbles went down great (someone gave Gsmums lil boy a bubble blower for his last birthday and it kept them entertained for ages) and balloons are always fun too (till they pop  )
I set up all the kids party food on a picnic rug too so they could have a party picnic on the lawn while all the adults sat around and gossiped.

I am not too fond of baloons for kids that age. Accidents happen quickly and we had a few cases in SA where kids got badly hurt.
Okay will get off my soapbox now. (just my opinion however, ignore me.)

The latest Treasures Mag has a big article on birthday parties for different ages. If you don't get the mag have a look at the website as they have the articles on there.

or hire toys like a slide, animal rockers etc...they are always good and not that expensive!
I went and bought a bouncy castle from warehouse (barbie) for $50 to use at Zaara's 2nd birthday party. I dont know if she will like it ...but what the hell!!
I think what you have planned so far is fine! I think he will have loads of fun!

I;ve made the train cake thats in the WW cake book. Its not that hard to make it just takes lots of time.

good to know. any hints or tips? Hubby did a search on the internet for train party ideas, now we are apparently having masking tape train tracks running through our house aswell. Oh and of course had to have a thomas pinata!

Jake and Taine both loved baloons and bubbles. we also had a pinata - however, I went a LITTLE overboard and put too many layers on it, and consequenlty it ook 45 minutes to be opened. kids loved it though - filled it with balloons and lollies - if you know exactly who is coming you could fill with a small bag for each kid.
