If I buy something off ebay from another country (e.g. USA or China) does that mean when I pay for it I have to pay something like $20 extra to get the money changed to the right currency?
I think I would be using pay pal with a debit card.

What happens is you pay the amount that you won it at and once you go to paypal they will transfer your amount into the correct amount for the trader.

You should pay the exact amount in the currency you bought the item in. I.e. If you buy something for $20US (etc) then thats what you pay, but it may cost you say $25/30AU with the exchange rate etc.

There shouldnt be any extra charges charged by the seller (other than postage), if there is, I'd be careful. I've bought heaps of stuff from the UK, China and the US and never had to pay extra than what the item was bought for.

Oh ETA if you use paypal (which I highly recommend) it will work out the exchange rate for you and charge it correctly.

Coolies, that's very good!
I thought maybe I would get charged the same way I get charged $20 when transfering money from our aussie account to nz account, some sort of currency exchange fee.
I will have a look at the pay pal site

One more Ebay question;
If a seller says they have a few of an item in stock and I would like say 4, then do I email the seller so they can set up an auction with 4 or do I buy the single item and ebay asks if I want more?
I miss trademe!

Buy the single item then message the seller to ask for more. Thats what I do anyway
And yeah I just pay through paypal - say $30AU and paypal just takes $50NZ from my bank account. We don't have our own paypal account we just use the sellers linky IYKWIM.

Chickoin when you get to the invoice section it will ask you to confirm how many you want. In there you can put how many you want which will adjust the amount you owe

I tried and there wasn't any bit that asked me how many I wanted. I just asked the seller and they made me up my own special auction with the amount I needed.
So yay! I got there in the end and I have overcome my Ebay fear thanks to everyone's help

Oh, one last question; I presume the seller knows my postal address, like they got it from the pay pal confirmation or whatever.... would that be right?
Ebay hasn't suggested I contact the seller like TM does.

Oh thats weird. Normally you can select the amount (assuming the seller lists there is more than one available). Anyways please you got it sorted.

Yep, your address is available to them once you have paid. It shows on their confirmation in Paypal. Ebay will also give it to them.
