I can't quite believe I'm ready to start thinking about TTC again but there you go.

I had my darling girl by emergency c-section because I went into labour at 34 weeks and she was stuck transverse. I'm getting on a bit (38) so we had originally planned on TTC 6 months after this baby because it took us over 18 months to conceive her.

I know that it's recommended that you wait up to 2 years after a c-section to fall pregnant again but I've always been a great healer so am leaning toward ignoring that advice and TTC soonish anyway.

Anyone got personal experience (good or bad) with falling pregnant soon after a c-section?

ask Sheza :)

I got preg 10 months after and mced but nothing to do with having had c section and then got preg and had them 2 years apart and fine..my OB at hospital said a year is preferable just cause it increases the risk of issues but from what i understand they are quite small anyway?

The "minimum 12 months between pg" is to allow sufficient healing to maximise the chances of a VBAC....

Jake was 9 months when I fell pg.. I figured it was close enough

So I guess its how important a vbac is to you really, but there are no guarantees either way so I would go for it

You could talk to your GP.
I did, she said we were good to TTC from 6mths. There's a bit of debate about how long the gap should be. I saw a lot of 12mth recommendations, didn't see any that said wait 2 yrs.

Good thread, thanks Thesaff!
Ive heard 12m min if you want a vbac, if you dont then I dont think it matters how long in between...

Hiya,

I fell pregnant with Isabella when Caden was just over 5 months old. Caden was born by emergency c section after a 2 day labour.

I had no complications with the pregnancy at all Apart from very low iron which saw me admitted to hospital for an iron infusion at 36 weeks, the pregnancy ticked along as normal, the only reason my iron was like that is because after Caden I had a lot of issues, needed a blood transfusion as my iron was very very very low due to large blood loss, so my health wasnt the best when I fell pregnant!

I was going to go for a VBAC but Miss Bella didnt want to come out and I wasnt allowed to be induced so at 9 days overdue, with nothing happening I decided to go for the elective C Section, and that went perfectly fine also! I recovered really really well!

The only thing that was hard, about having 2 so close together, Caden was still a baby in many ways when Bella came along, he was still so dependant on me, but now that he is 2 and bella is 10 months things are perfect and I wouldnt want it any other way

Good Luck, you'll be fine with whatever you choose!

Thanks everyone.

Yeah, in an ideal world I'd wait until Kiara is older because I'm really enjoying her and am worried about giving her a rough deal because my energy and time would be spread a bit thinly with 2 really close together. But it took us so long for her to join us (it was actually about 3 years because of the miscarriages) that I feel like I need to start trying again soon. Clock is ticking and all that jazz.

I would prefer a VBAC but am not passionate about it so that's not swaying my decision.

My GP is useless and quite frankly I've had such sh*te care and bad and contradictory advice from the Obs and Midwives involved in my pregnancies that I don't actually have any trust in what they're likely to tell me anyway.

I always heal well and haven't had any serious illnesses my entire life so I think I'm leaning toward going for it in the next couple of months.

Fingers crossed eh?

I got told to wait 6mths before getting pregnant again after my c/s. I waited 4mths and found out i was pregnant again when DD was 5mths old.

My pregnancy was pretty easy and it was nice to be able to sleep when bubs slept during the day. I went on to have a wonderful VBAC and love the age gap we have between our girls.

I had an elective c sect in September last year and was told by obstetrician and mw to wait 12 months before TTC again just to let things "heal", has been 10 months so far, don't really see how things can me "more healed" in 2 months though.
Will be having an elective c section next time so no worries about trying for natural next time here.

Great thread.... I was just thinking about this the other day. Isla is 4 and a half months old and we are thinking we might start trying for #2 soon. We are only planning on have 2 kiddies so would like them to be close in age. I had an emergency C-Sec 14 days overdue but I healed really well and had no issues during pregnancy or after my C-Sec, and I'll probably go with an elective next time round anyway so don't think there will be any issues there. I'm still young 24 and very healthy so fingers crossed it should all work out OK

One of the mums in our Feb 09 thread had a CS then another baby just over a year later. I'll tell her to come have a nose in here ;)

Also my good friend has just had baby number 2 - her DS was born by emergency cs and is 26 months so not a teeny gap but a great story - she had a waterbirth for DS2 yesterday morning, he arrived less than 20 mins after they got to hospital - they only just had time to fill the tub!

Well.... lets just say we aren't exactly 'preventing' me from getting pregnant at the moment iykwim..... hehe So could really happen anytime. We aren't too worried either way. If I get preg now we will be happy.... but if it takes another year that's fine too.
Only took 2 months after going off the pill to conceive Isla and I'd been on the pill non stop for 7yrs before that so will be interesting to see how long it takes this time round

Just reading back through the threads - I was looking for a thread like this. I keep thinking maybe I'm being irresponsible wanting to TTC next month. Just so confused.

Have those who were thinking about TTC started yet?

Yup. We're sort of trying.   I went off the pill right after I finished posting here (because I forgot 3 days in a row and couldn't be bothered starting again). But AF hasn't made her return yet so chances are pretty low. First time in many years that I've been keen for AF to arrive!

If you're wanting to be "informed" then nip down to the c-section thread. Someone posted a couple of interesting articles about the risks of uterine rupture. Depends on your perspective as to whether you think it's too risky or not. Article thread

This is a piece of advice I never got so I just had #2 when the time was right. The gap is 19mos (both full term) and #2 was a VBAC. I had a gf withe the same gap and she did c/s then c/s. No probs for either of us.
