There are few threads at the moment asking for help with choosing a name. We are also a bit stuck and are not making any real progress.
I do have quite a few requirements but am starting to wonder if I might just have to be a bit more flexible and maybe in the long term things don't matter so much. But I would love to find the PERFECT name for our baby girl!

Ok here it goes:

Our last name is Lay so it's rather short. Ideally I'd like something with more than one syllable.

Has to be gender specific.

I don't like name which can be shortend very easy (ie Stephanie - Steph)

My name starts with S and DH's with T so something differnt would be nice (also not so sure about two L as intitials)

My family is German so have problems pronouncing some english names (ie Catherine - they can't say TH very well)

A name like Emma would be ideal as it is pronounced the same in both languages (but it's to common for DH, even so I like it)

A lot of pretty girls names have an L in them and it sounds weird with our last name ie Olivia, Amelia or even Emily even so this is a name we both like

Nothing to unusal (ie Apple or Sparrow) on the other hand DH thinks Emma is to common

Obvious way to spell the name

DH is Maori so would love that as a middle name (or even first name if we really LOVE it) but I have problems with the Maori R (love Aroha but can't say it correct)

I think this will do for now. I have more restrictions but might leave them for now as I don't wanna come across as a complete nutter
Here we go again, another baby on it's way!

have you been to Name Generator as I went to that when I was pregnant with DS and got a first and middle name that went with the last name. It's really good and gives you heaps of options.

I like Amelia.

Juliana... Violet, Ruby, Eve or Evie, Ivy... hmm can't think of anymore...

What about a German name that can easily be said in English?

I know your name starts with S, but Sarah is a lovely plain name.

I was a puree feeder, forward facing, cot sleeping, pram pushing kind of Mum... and my kids survived!

"Ana" (pronounced Ah- nar) is similar to Emma but less common, and it's a girls name in a lot of languages including Maori (sorry couldn't tell you what it meant though). First or middle name.

I like the name Imogen for something a bit different. Would have loved to call our DD that but it sounds terrible with the last name.
Also love the names Saskia and Bianca.

DH is Kiwi and I'm german.

We went for a german first name and his sisters name as middle name.

Janina Jayne

Most kiwis can't pronounce Janina (Yaneena) but we just introduce her as Nina as that's easier to pronounce.

Both our names start with J and baby has now got two names with J but I'm quite happy with that, actually!

I'd defo go for a german first name, susyl!

But the boys names it came up with! OMG! They were dreadful lol

Yeah whenever I've been on baby name Genie it's come up with things like Og, or Gallahad, or Gertrude, or Maudette.
