 Topic: Babysitter/nanny while in labour

I'm currently having a bit of a dilemma.I'm due with #2 in sept and am stressing about what to do with DS when I go into labour.
We have no family here in N.Z and dont really know many people here.The one friend I had lined up to look after DS is no longer able to do it.
I really want hubby to be with me so am thinking we'll have to get a babysitter/nanny.But I also dont want to leave DS with a complete stranger so would probably get said person to look after DS beforehand a few times.
So basically I need someone to watch DS 2 a few times and be able to call them when I go into labour.Do you think sort of role exists and where would I start looking for someone?Thanks.

Where abouts do you live?
Have you thought about going to playgroups/coffee groups to meet some other mums.
You could ask one of the mums to do it?
It would be hard  or i guess you could get a babysitter although they might be a bit hard guarantee they could be there for you

Sorry,forgot to say I'm in Hamilton.Have been suffering from hyperemisis the whole pregnancy so have hardly been able to go anywhere.Currently have DS in daycare fulltime as I havnt been well enough to look after him.

Ask one of the daycare teachers!
Thats what a friend of mine did as she has no family here and declined my offer as I was very pregnant myself! It worked out really well for her- she went into labour early hrs of the morning, waiting til she was quite near to wanting to go to hospital, rang the teacher at 5 am, then went to hospital just before 7am- DD1 was still asleep, but had been given lots of warning that one of 2 of her teachers would be looking after her when Mummy went to have baby.
She had baby at 8am, DD1 was fine when she woke up and the teacher was there, she gave her breakfast, dressed her then took her to hospital to meet her new baby sister!

Yip, I would talk to a daycare teacher! Would be the perfect solution as they can take your child to DC if need be or home.

We had a neighbour take our foster son when I went into labour with Clodagh....dunno who's gonna do it this time with Clodagh with Mum and DF both hopefully in attendance again (cos neighbour has moved!).  I would ask at daycare too otherwise its always a good idea to have a babysitter (or two!) on the books anyway. Once you find a couple of nice people then you can let them both know when you're due and if they'd be ok minding your child at the pivotal time! I'm sure you'll get a positive response

I knew someone whose family is all in England - tehy hired a nanny to come in (through an agency) apparently it worked really well and they still use her as a babysitter as well.
