    Posted: 12 June 2010 at 10:48pm
Not sure where to put this, but hope here is good...

Just wondering if anyone knows anyone who has got pregnant on the Depo injection (after the first injection or at all) or has got pregnant themselves on it?

I had it at 6 weeks post baby, and bled from 7-9 weeks post. DP and I didn't do anything (iygwim) until 7 weeks as nurse advised us to wait a week. Anyway I don't have AF back, I am exclusively breast feeding DD about 2-3 hourly day and night.

However... I have been having really, really weird dreams! (I only ever dreamed when pregnant, as soon as DD was born it stopped!), I have been really tired too for the past 2 weeks and the last couple of days I have felt nauseous. I can't tell if my boobs are tender or and I notice smells but can't tell if it's more than normal iygwim...

If I am still feeling sick in a couple of days I will test but just wondering what anyone knows/has experienced with this topic...

Thanks in advance!!

like any contraception none of it is a hundred percent except abstinence
BUT in your case, considering you are still exclusively breast feeding and on a contraception which is supposed to be one of the more successful , I would really doubt you are UTD
the symptoms you are feeling are more likely side affects, I had the same side affects when I first went on it , they went after awhile .
Along with my slim figure, took that away too

it is definatly possible.
i proved that taking depo and norimin can still lead to pregnancy. not a sucessful one though, but a pregnancy none the less.

if you test in the morning it should be accurate depending on how preg you could be. IYGWIM

found this

How does Depo-ProveraŽ prevent pregnancy?

The injected DMPA suppresses your pituitary gland which stops your ovaries from releasing eggs. Without these eggs, pregnancy can't happen. The injections also change the lining of your uterus and the mucus in your cervix. By changing your cervical mucus, the hormones make it more difficult for sperm to reach the egg.

How effective are Depo-ProveraŽ injections?

If women get Depo-ProveraŽ injections at the right time every 3 months, they are more than 99% effective. This means that if 100 women get Depo-ProveraŽ injections at the right time, less than 1 woman will become pregnant in a year.

Okay cool, yeah I knew it stopped the egg release and all but my mum had to say "You're not pregnant already are you?!" Which made me think about it like mad!

It is stressful not having AF!

Guess I can stop stressing now!!

I never had af the whole 2 years I was on the depo... I would think it would be very unlikely to get UTD on it ... but not impossible so maybe just test to put ya mind at ease

ETA - nausea can be a side effect of the depo

I don't think its just the fact that she is on the depo that would make it harder for her to concieve, its the fact that she is also breastfeeding exclusively , that helps prevent ovulation and pregnancy as well .

Oh wow freckle YAY you......... that explains your absence from WW thread

oops sorry for threadjacking

My 2cents while im here........it took us 15months TTC after i came off the depo.......so for me it screwed with my fertility.
I had one shot of depo after having Jesse, but that wore off in April and I havent had AF.
