We were driving between Waihi and Hamilton last night and had to take evasive action due to a large object on the road (turned out to be a large piece of carpet all bunched up). Luckily there was nothing coming the other way.

We turned around thinking it should be taken off the road before there was an accident while we were waiting to do a u-turn we flashed a couple of cars to warn them of it. No one slowed down, and there were a couple of very near calls with traffic coming the other way.

We parked behind it with our hazard lights on and still traffic came past fast and there was nearly another accident.

Only one other car stopped after going around it. I couldn't believe that people were going past it and not willing to move it off the road and didn't slow down despite us trying our best to warn people.

We often stop to move things off the road including 6 calfs the other day! I hate to think how long it had been there and with the long weekend traffic it was highly likey that an accident would have happened. It only delayed us slightly and we knew that we had done our best to prevent an accident.

Whats worse is that one day I turned into a street to see a toddler sitting in the middle of the road and 2 cars drove straight past.

People are crazy hey? I remember one time this person had chairs falling off the back of their trailer and I immediately slowed and put hazard lights on and all other cars just ignored it and zoomed past...these chairs were in the middle of the road.

Gee Stacey...that is random, where were the parents??

Our neighbours are Bretheren (sp?) and often do this sadly. We tried talking to them but I think they took offense all though they still let their kids do it. Our street isn't a main road or anything but all the driveways have kinks in them and are down hill to the house iygwim, so people speed up their drives, really it could be an accident waiting to happen!

We get a lot of people on the main road leaving car doors open etc, people drive past at 60km an hour...

That is scary about the toddler! I came across a little girl once on my way home from school, when I was about 16 she would have been about 3. She was just wondering down a very busy street. I managed to find where she lived and her Mum yelled at me for interferring with her daughter.

I picked up a toddler off the road and tried to find the mum and got screamed at saying what I was doing with her kid. I was like well thats nice you are taking an interest in parenting now that she is safely off the road but a little too late I think. I didn't say all this though as she was a little irrational and it just wasn't worth it. That and the shock of a near naked toddler with just a nappy on in the middle of winter in the middle of the road. Some people should not be allowed to breed.

The caregivers hadn't noticed the kid had got out. It wasn't a quiet street, it was a road people tend to speed down. Just couldn't believe people had driven past and not stopped.
