How many breastfeeds does / did your baby have at around 10 months? I realise they are all different but I thought that feeds would decrease with age, not increase.

Ashley has been gradually increasing the number of breastfeeds she has a day. As she ups her breastfeds, she decreases her solids intake which is pretty much the opposite of what you'd expect.

She seems to be reinstating a night feed and then wanting to breastfeed 2 hourly in the day. I am finding it too much.

I'd put her on a schedule or a form of one. Feed her when you'd usually feed her first thing in the am & then base your next feedings from there, say 4 hourly for a couple of days. She won't starve in a day & when you see her coming for a feed, distract her.

We hit 10 months this week. I feed at breakfast, lunch and just before bed ( have just dropped a mid afternoon feed as she wasn't feeding well at this feed or before bed). Also a dreamfeed at 10 pm, which she'll probably drop soon too.

Had a 2 hourly night waking thing a while back but was a snacking habit/sleep assoication thing. dropped her back to one feed by waking her at 3am, then made that shorter and shorter and hasn't feed at night for about 4 weeks.

Agree distraction works wonders with this - we go for a walk or do some dancing to music, which gets her through to meal time.

He's not 10 months anymore but DS2 was feeding roughly 8-10 times in every 24 hours...but to be honest it wasn't something I ever really paid that much attention to so that is me guessing.
LOL

A would be on boob for comfort, to reconnect after a busy day, for food or any number of reasons but that was something I was willing to do for him. A often preferred milk to food at that age, but seeing milk has way more fat and calories ounce for ounce than any solid food so I wasn't particularly bothered by that either.

Is she having a growth spurt or teething? My boy had 3-4 breastfeeds (5 max) a day at 10mths and no night feeds.

Hmmm, 10 months - from memory my girl was on around 7 feeds a day, plus at least one overnight...

Maybe teething, I'm not sure. She just cut her first 2 teeth a week ago but has been really unsettled since then. She has totally changed from her usual happy go lucky self and is now clingy and whiney all day. Took her to the doc and got the all clear so perhaps she is teething?? She used to be fine with her solids but today was crying and pushing them away then seeking out the breast. Naturally I let her feed but ideally I'd like to cut back a bit (a) so she gets back into solids and (b) because we want to TTC number 3 and I need my cycles back!

we hit 10 months this week

DS has a BF when he wakes at 6.30am
before morning sleep around 8.30am
before afternoon sleep around 1.30
and before Night sleep at 7.00

are you offering Food before milk these days now ??

I would let her feed while teething and a 'bit out of sorts'... it will settle.

be sure to offer lots of water throughout the day instead as well.. as she may just be thirsty too

DD at 10months had three, one about 5/6am occasionally one at 7/8am one maybe at afternoon tea then one for last feed, actually DD has been on only 2 feeds for awhile, with an extra one thrown in at 7/8am because I dont want to get out of bed then last feed. DD is now 10.5months and have dropped to one feed, her night feed isn't a proper feed because she is far too busy and nosey, and I normally end up being chomped instead

My DS is only 8 1/2 months but has a BF at 6.30 or when he gets up, 10am, 2.30pm and 6.30pm when he goes to bed. He also has three solid meals a day and an afternoon snack. He is also decreasing his mid-morning and afternoon feeds so will go down to three a day soon I think.

You may have to make a decision about whether to BF just for food requirements or whether to also BF for comfort, closeness, soothing etc. I wouldn't think she would need that many BF a day and it sounds like it might be interfering with her acceptance of solids.

We are only at 8 1/2 months as well and feed 6-8 times a day/night so can't help you too much there am trying to cut it down a bit myself.

But on the teething thing - my daughter went from sleeping through the night to not once her teeth came through. She tends to go off her food for a week or so when new ones are coming thru but will happily take the breast. So she probably has sore gums but yeah try cutting her feeding down a little. Im trying to only go one - two morning feed, one afternoon, one bed time and then one at night (though it was twice last night lol)
