bit of a strange request
but is it possible to set up private boards for each due/born in group.
another forum I go on each born in/due in group has their own private boards. these are used to discuss things you dont want "outsiders reading" but not to talk about other members its more for the "I dont want my father to read that" kind of thing.
they do have a few rules such as you must have over x number of posts and you must be a regular poster even posting once every few weeks..so if you only post once every 6 months you dont get the password..if you havent posted in x number of weeks you get your "private board privelidges" revoked which can be reinstated once you have started postimg again on a regular basis

each memember of that due in/born in group would get a password which could be changed say once every 3 months?

Could I just add that is there any way of making all the forums for members only? ie you can only read and post to them once you've registered as an OB member?
I'm just a bit concerned that anyone having a nosy round the internet can find these forums and read all our personal stories and see pics etc.

Oh but then I cant lurk on my TTC buddies and go on labour watch when its their due month and people cant go melnel watch when I am due (I believe there a many of you silently stalking me out there  )

I love this idea but I'm pretty sure it's been raised numerous times and it hasn't happened yet.
I'll be thrilled if it does happen. I can finally talk in "my" place without being watched by the apparent numerous stalkers I have.
Being a single Mum I get quite isolated at the moment and I use the forum to talk to other grown ups. Thats pretty much been taken away frome me though with stalkers.
Would be a shame to think I have to find another forum to chat on just so I can talk privately to people.

that would be the idea of having the private boads but you only (long as met the requirements) get the password for the due/born in group your child/ren are/is in ..eg my children are born/due in nov 07 and Dec 09 so i would only get the password to the private board of those boards.

Yep it sounds like a great idea. I hate everyone reading up on me lol, but i also keep posting on here even though people read up on me 
I have started using Oh Baby alot more lately because im bored, dp is always busy & i can get answers from these ladies about all sorts of things. I have received great info & advice.
Id love to have a private thread for when im pregnant 7 chatting with other pregnant ladies who are due the same time

just as another suggestion, you could always create your own PHPBB3 forum for your due date group, inviting who you want etc, you don't have to accept someone if they apply to join etc.

we have set up a FB group which is members only but we only tend to use it when OB goes down for whatever reason. we tend to forget it exists but i might suggest we use it more for some stuff that is more sensitive. i dont think we should make the due in threads totally private though as i know alot of our mums have been following whats going on and feeling connected even though they dont feel confident enough to post. i guess its a tricky one cos at the end of the day it is open to anybody to read about our lives :S

It has come up before, but I doubt it will ever happen. If the forums were suddenly locked down and no longer indexed on Google, then these forums wouldn't get as much traffic. At the moment when mums search for topics they can find the forums if we have talked about it here..
Yes, there is a members only fb group, with only verified members able to access it..

I agree on locking it all down a lot more but then I only hang out here and ttc and don't stalk anyone. I find stalking pretty odd! Surely if you want to know how someone is getting on you would ask them personally?

people would still be able to read the "open" forums but the private boards would be seperate. ie if someone who wasnt given the password clicked on the link it would ask them for a password.
hope that makes a bit more sense

we have a FB group for March 2010 thats private and you have to be invited to it by one of us.
i like the idea of only OB people who have registere to the site can read the forums... but then again how easy would it be for anyone to just sign up?

We have a private FB group for November 2010 due date too - that's probably an easier alternative than changing the privacy settings on OB.
For me personally I don't tend to lurk in other due date threads anyways, can always find the people I'm stalking on other threads.

I think that although stalking sucks, you do have to be aware that this is a public forum and think about what you do and don't post. Personally I wouldn't have joined if I hadn't been able to lurk for a bit first, in order to realise that this was a community I did want to be part of.
Plus I think there is plenty of value to others from reading the forum even if they never join, they are likely to learn stuff that can help them parent better or gain reassurance about what is happening to them etc.
