Topic: Huggies leaking! Help! Posted: 25 May 2010 at 10:31am |
Hi
I have an 8 month old boy and we have pretty much just used huggies since he was born. I had heard other people rave about them. But in the last 2-3 weeks they have been leaking at night and occasionally through the day. In the last 2 weeks we have cut out the 10.30pm feed and he goes from 7.15pm until 7am without a feed (so we have actually cut out one feed). He is always wet on one side and it goes up his back on that side. We have only had a few dry nights over the last few weeks. We have tried the next size nappy up with no joy. Is anyone else having this problem? Do you use another brand of nappies that don't leak?
Thanks!
Lee-Anne

No real advice, when Lily starts leaking it's usually time for the next size up...
I like Huggies, Treasures Ultra (not giggles) and Woolworths Select.

For me going up a size works - but as thats not working for you, maybe try a different brand (ring round and try and get some free samples before buying a whole packet)
Also the obvious bit about making sure his penis is pointing straight down as otherwise my boy shots pee out one side of his nappy.
I'm afraid I have no suggestions for other brands as the ones I tried leaked even worse.

yea sometimes when their body shape starts changing the nappy they are in needs to change too. huggies have always worked really well for us but my friends children leaked through them and found the pams ones better just because he was a different shape from my son. maybe see if another brand would work and its probably the fit and not the absorbancy

You could try putting a MCN cover or wool soaker over the top at night to contain any leaks... will at least save washing of pjs and bedding!
You can buy those cheapy covers at T&T, I use them over the top of my cloth night nappy just in case their are any leaks!
Don't know anything about disposables but is the leaking because the nappy is over saturated or is it just escaping out the leg?
Good luck!

I have the same issue with huggies but find other brands even worse so I've taken to putting a cloth nappy cover over his sposies at night and hey presto! No leaks.

I could never find a nappy that didn't leak at night fro DS so ended up putting a cloth insert from my cloth nappies inside my huggies nappies. Worked a treat and we had no leaks at all.

E did a few leaks but mostly the only ones that dont for us were huggies..we also went up a size when it happened and it worked..he had a weird body shape:) but yeah I'd try another brand and see.. for us apart from that brief time both boys only wear huggies

Thanks for all your replies! The nappies are nowhere as heavy in the morning as they used to be - it seems to be escaping instead! He is definitely pointing down. I learnt about that the hard way when he was a newborn and couldn't understand why he was always wet! The things you learn!!!!
We will definitely try a couple of different brands. Have just heard from 2 other people today that their boys are in Homebrand nappies and they really like them.
Also will give the insert a go too and see if that makes a difference.
Thanks for your suggestions!

It is escaping out of the leg - it is definitely not soaked - quite light compared to what it used to be before leaking started.

For me they leak cause they're so full. I got a super piddler here.
Are you making sure you pull the elastics out on the legs? Just tuck a finge in and pull them so they point outwards rather than inwards.

Homebrand are great for during the day, and the occasional time when DH has put DS in one at night he has never leaked.
We use Treasures Ultra at night, which I think are better for boys as they are longer. Whenever he has leaked out of Huggies, we've swapped to the same size Treasures. Once he starts leaking out of those, it's into the next size up Huggies, and then into Treasures after that. Make sense?!

I had the same problem too and switched to Treasures Ultra for the last month or so until the last few nights when we had 3 leaks in a row so I bought Huggies again but a smaller packet to see what difference that makes. Strangely the smaller packet nappy seems heaps different to the big jumbo boxes. Anyone else notice that? If they don't work I think I'll try a cover or go up a size, though he's much closer to the smaller end than the bigger end, so not sure if that would work.
