Topic: irregular & long cycles Posted: 10 May 2010 at 9:02am |
hi girls
I am new on this forum but from what i have read it looks great with lots of support. much like the wedidng one i was on last year.
We have been trying since Dec with no luck so far. i use to have irregular periods before the pill & since coming off i have had 2 which seemed quite regular & was expecting another this week but nope not arrived.. so so i hope i dont go back to my old pattern post pill it use to be get it then again 6 weeks then not for 3 months.
i was never thought i would be so dissapointed not to get a period only now we are trying to i want it so i can try charting & i brought some of the OPK's too.

Welcome to OB!!
Have you tested seeing your late??
I have horribly long irregular cycles too and it sucks... I so hope yours stay nice and regular, but if not you could try Vitex in attempt to regulate your hormones.
Do come and join us in the charting thread!!

Hey chic and welcome!
Have you been tested for PCOS (Poly cystic ovary syndrome) I have it and as a result I can sometimes skip a month :( It sounds like you might have it. The only thing that can help is being on the pill.
I feel your pain though it's such a bother when your trying to get pregnant. At the moment I haven't had my period for almost 2 months and we have only been trying to conceive for a couple of weeks. I'm trying not to get my hopes up as I'm pretty sure its just the PCOS teasing me lol.

welcome thmprs!
It's always nice to have anew face (so to speak) around here
I can't help with PCOS symptoms but vitex is a natural supplement you can buy that helps promote fertility. It doesn't work for everyone but does for many. It's known to help regulate periods so I think it would be worth giving a go for you. It can take 3 months to be effective so it's not an instant fix but the sooner you start the better!

Pcos symptoms - irregular periods, weight gain, acne, excessive hair growth, hormonal imbalance, cysts on ovaries... that's all I can think of...
Vitex - can work well for people with PCOS... vitex works by helping regulate the hormones. You can get it at health food shops. It's a dried fruit. It is often referred to as the natural clomid as it can encourage earlier ovulation (therefore, shortening cycle) and facilitate an adequate length luteal phase by increasing progesterone...

Freckle has outlined the basic symptoms. How prominent they are is different for each woman. My main symptom was irregular periods. Also weight gain but I had quit smoking and then a year later gotten pregnant with twins so I never caught on that the weight gain could be because of PCOS lol. I also have the hair growth but nothing freakish just a rouge chin hair every so often lol. Gosh I sound like a troll lol.
Its nothing too much to worry about. It's very common but it can cause infertility later in life if your extremely unlucky. Also it can make you a higher risk of diabetes. But these are just worst case scenarios. You should ask the doc about it. They can find out by doing a simple blood test.

Hi thmprs.
Welcome! I've only been posting on here a couple of months and everyone has been so great and supportive
Personally, my periods have been pretty irregular since coming off the pill early last year and although I've heard that a simple blood test can show if you have PCOS, I'm still waiting for a confirmed diagnosis in that direction (blood tests and scans are inconclusive at this stage - but I think I'm unusual in that regard).
I endured about 6 months of irregular cycles after coming off the pill before going to see the dr (and she was great), so if you haven't already, I'd go and see them. Just outline the situation and ask if there are any tests that can be done.

Thanks girls you are great. I haven't asked the Dr about it mainly cause I was always irregular before but didn't worry about it.
Maybe I should I did have a prenatal blood test the other week does anyone know what that normally tests?

hello dux
do you think you have PCOS? I'd never thought of that before - when are you going back to the docs?

I would also recommend seeing a Chinese Medicine Doctor - it cost m $60 and I got pregnant within 2 months on his herbal pills.
Previously my periods were every 36 days since coming off the pill.

If you go to the Dr you could get blood tests to double check Hcg and if not he may be able to prescribe Provera to bring on af...

I went to Jason Xu at the Natural Health Centre. He was great and have recommended to friends. I had never been to a natural place before but thought didn't have anything to lose!
