Make sure you get decent gear (which isn't cheap). People ride around in shorts and tshirts but they're still going 50kph. And when you hit a car at 50kph, guess who comes out worse off. I've provided rehab to a number of people who haven't worn the right protective gear on their heads or bodies, and it's not pretty. The average scooter rider comes off at least once a year apparently.
DH has a 125cc, so he had to get his motorike license. Petrol is $6/week (West Akld to city,5 days a week). I keep telling him to take the petrol coupons from the supermarket but he keeps resisting

He used to bus, and it saves him 2 hours a day. Total outlay at the start, including all the gear, was $5K + but we worked out that it will all pay off in less than 2 years (when compared with the cost of bussing)
