I posted this in Toddler times as well, so this is just a copy and paste...

DS 16months badly needs a haircut (his hair is past his shoulders lol) Can anyone recommend a good one? Preferably in West Auck?
I really don't want my sons hair being butchered :(

Also, how do they distract them and keep them still?

Thanks

Can't help sorry - I cut my DS's hair and have since he was really little - he is now 2. I just use the clippers and a comb - so pull the comb through his hair and swipe the clippers over it when I think the length is right - at this stage it looks just fine....luckily he has really think hair and it doesn't require much structure....

Not sure on where to go out there, but withh my DS and his first cut, they were really good and just let him climb over me and followed him to cut, and they did a good job, im sure they will know how to keep him still, they do it all the time.

This place is the only kids hairdresser I think there is in Auckland - on the North Shore.

My DD had her first haircut there not long ago and she was brilliant. There are toys and tv to distract the child, and you get a card and lock of hair to keep if it's the first haircut/

I just went to my hairdresser, they were fine, DS wriggled all over the place and while the hairdresser was probably cursing him on the inside she never showed it LOL I sat down with the gown on and DS went on my lap, a few times I had to hold his head still. If you son is a wriggler then they probably wont do much more than a good overall tidy up, not too close to the ears etc.

Personally I dont think you really need to traipse all over town to find a kids hairdresser.

I also made sure right at the start to ask for the lock / curl I wanted to keep and put it straight in a little zip lock bag (that my buttons came in on a new shirt LOL) DH came too and took a couple of photos.   First hair cut was free and the second was £5, so around $10 I guess.
