Topic: Tubes Tied?? Posted: 24 April 2010 at 4:56pm |
hi,
I really had no idea where to post this, so sorry if this is the wrong place!!
Has anyone here had tubal litigation? Either with a C-Section or not. DH and I are looking into it, trying to decide whether I should have it done when I have my C in October, or if he should have a Vasectomy. Practically, it makes more sense for me to do it, as I'll already be cut open and on display, and from what I have read it makesno difference to healing time, but I'm just not sure what it would do for me mentally to be unable to have children....if you know what I mean...not sure that makes sense.
I'm only 21, and DH is 25, but I have the most hideous pregnancies - I suffer from Hyperemesis, and it takes a toll on our marriage and daughter, as well as affecting everyone else who has to look after me. Last preg I got quite badly depressed and it lasted for 2 years, on and off.
So we have decided that this will be our last one. I'm not sensitive, so feel free to share your opinions if you want. I just really wanted to hear from someone that had had it, or was thinking of having it, or has been in the same circumstance....please help?

To be honest, i'd get your MW to refer you to the obstetrics team at the hospital for a good chat. Being so young they may not do it for you, no matter what reasons you have! We were going to get this done, but hubby has decided that he doesnt want me to get it done and that he will get the snip instead.

Yeah I was gonna say you will find it very difficult to convince them to do it at 21.

I'm so not in the same position as you. Either age wise, difficult pregnancy or anything.
But 21?
I'd say wait.

I am having my tubes tied in July during the c-section for number 4's birth. We both are absolutely sure this is our last baby, so the decision was easy......but I'm much older then you! I agree that you should at least chat to your midwife....she may know if you are able to have them done at your age or refer you to someone who can help.
I've asked this question before, and most women said the recovery is no different although a few said they had a bit more bruising and pain.
If the idea of never being able to have children again is playing on your mind....maybe look at getting the Mirena or the implant (goes in your arm, can't remember the name) as they offer long term protection (5 yrs I think).

I think they say no unless you are 35+ but there are exceptions to every rule.
You may find vasectomy is your option, at least there is a chance of reversing that...

I had it done at Liam's birth..both doc and mw said they wouldn't let me(they being the hospital) but i clearly said i wanted it..he made sure i was sure and asked me several times but I am 32 and have two children . I would think they won't let you at 21:(
I had a c section and got it done..there is a slightly higher risk of failure but it's like point 3 of a percent or something.. at the start of the pregnancy i felt weird about altering myself by having tubes tied but got over that and am super glad I made the decision now. Dh is getting the snip too though as we are both sure we don't want anymore children and want to make sure.
I was a bit sorer but i also had adhesions cut off from first time..they said sometimes you are a bit sorer but nothing too much worse.
Feel free to msg me or ask questions I am 100% glad I did it as Liam is out last one and have had quite a bit of attitude about it which irritates me:(
