    Posted: 29 December 2006 at 8:24am
Hopefully you ladies (or Jess) will be able to answer this for me. I have been charting for this most recent cycle, and I have been a little haphazzard with my timing, 15 or 30 minutes out here and there, now I think I remember reading somewhere that you can adjust your temp either way depending on how late/early you took it. Is this true? if it is, whats the golden rule? also, what sort of jump in temp can I expect when I am ovulating? and, If I do get a rise in temp, does that 100% mean I am ovulating?, or just that my body is trying to?

Wow, talk about the questions!!!
Enough of me already, TIA
Anna

Ok if you are taking it 15 - 30 mins out here and there its not a biggie. Its when its an hour or more that it is. So dont touch the temps just leave them as is.

When ovulation occurs u should expect to see a temp jump of about 0.2 - 0.3 degrees. This is ONLY confirmed when you have that plus 3 days of high temps. Dont stop doing the deed till you have those higher temps.

If your body is only trying u may get the big dip and them a small rise then dip and the temps will not hold up higher as you wont have a corpus luteum (occurs from ovulation) producing progesterone for you

I hope that helps

Thanks for that, I new you would be able to help me, I noticed my temp jump from 36.4 to 36.7 thismorning, so I take it if it stays up from now until AF or a BFP then I am ovulating, and if it stays up for a few days then drops, then there is something wrong?

Is there a good book to read all this stuff in?

Cheers

Fertility friend has good question and answer sections in it - that was all I used. I also wasn't as precise with my timings of my temp, anywhere from 6 - 7.30 (depending on what time it was in the term) I took them. I also experiments a couple of times when I got up to use the loo and wasn't sure if I would have 3 hours sleep before waking and found very little difference between, say, a 4.00 and then a 7.00 time. But I know some people fluctuate wildly so you need to experiment a little.

Are you using fertility friend? I found it really easy, and I never bothered paying for the VIP (true, I was on it for a very short time!).

Please if ur serious about knowing if ur ovulating make sure u DO take your temps at the same time every day BEFORE you get out of bed. Reason is that once u get up and move it increases body temp and also with at LEAST 3 hours sleep.

If you use fertility friend dont pay for VIP its not really worth it. But the charting software is good. But if your doing something that is helping you then just stick with that. What ever is easiest i always say.

In terms of the temps rising and falling if your body is trying to ovulate its not a biggie its actually alot more common than you think.

If u rise for a few days and then falls check out that there isnt a change in climate around you that could have caused your temps to climb. Think about your temps and when they were taken. Its rare for you to have a high shift and keep it for a few days and then lose it. I would say that if ur temps remain high till a BFP or AF then yep you have ovulated. Esp if u get a BFP

There is such a thing as a fall back rise but i wont go to much into detail. Your temp rise sounds awesome so as long as it stays 0.2 - 0.3 above your "pre Ovulation" temps you will have ovulated. If you do end up with an online chart and want an opinion just flick me a pm with the link and ill check it out for you and give you my opinion

Thanks Jess,

I really do get a wee bit confused every now and then. I am only using the chart that came with the thermometer, as we don't have the net at home till end Jan, so, I'll just stick to what I have at the moment. Fingers Crossed......... We've gone past the 12 month s of TTC mark now, and it's starting to play with my head!

Yeah, I have been reffered to the fertility clinic at the local hospital, I am just waiting for an appointment, however, the wait is around 6 months, and it seems that no one will take me privately for another 12 months! So, I'll just carry on doing what we are doing for the mean time.
I take my temp at 6.45am every morning, well most mornings, but even if I am late, I still record it but make a note that it was late being taken.
