Hi there - I'm a newbie to this forum as only just starting TCC for our first baby :) Very exciting and also a bit strange after years of being TERRIFIED at the thought of pregnancy etc. How times change, haha. The healthy weight loss topic that has a fair few responses in this forum is definitely of interest to me as I struggled with eating disorders from age 14-21...

I would consider myself in recovery but like an alcoholic, it never goes away entirely....I'm about 10kg over what I'm happy with now (5ft6 and 73kg) and not sure how aggressively I should be dieting and how I will cope if/when I get pregnant! Has anyone else had to deal with disordered eating and pregnancy?

I'm also a bit worried as when I was 18 years old I'm fairly sure I had a MC while on holiday with my friend....LOTS of blood and weird tissue (sorry, probably TMI!) and in hindsight I should have gone to hospital. I couldn't leave our apartment for two days (and when I did, it was horrendous for reasons I probably don't need to go into and something I would rather forget....) After that, I lay exhausted in a bath for around 20 hours while my friend partied! It was one of the most awful times of my life. I never saw a doctor and have always worried that it might have effected my fertility. Should I just bite the bullet and see a doctor? And do MC impact on your chances of getting pregnant?

Sorry, lots of questions and lots of stress! Hopefully, someone can help :)

Welcome Jen,

I can't help about the eating disorder - although I'm sorry you've been through that.

Of course, every person is different, but if your period aren't usually heavy, then you may very of well experienced a miscarriage.

It's not uncommon for first time pregnancies to end in miscarriage, but it could be an idea to talk to your doctor. Most fertility specialists wont however do investigations until you've had three first trimester miscarriages or two second trimester one.

All the very best for your TTC journey, fingers crossed it's a short one :)

PS: I found the Fertility Friend website/app incredibly helpful!

Hi Jen.
As a former anorexic, Ive definately felt the same way as you in regards to your changing body shape with pregnancy. I was (and am currently) a underweight bmi before my pregnancy (5 foot 10, 58kg) and struggle with weight. I found that the joy of eing pregnant gave me the strength i needed to gain the right amount of weight to keep my son healthy. I got counsiling through my gp and found a supportive midwife who had experience with women with eating issues.
In regards to the MC if you have been having regular periods since, without lots of pain or clots you will probably be alright but see your gp and tell them you are TTC so you can get their reccommendations plus start on iodine and folate (especially if your dieting).

Hi Jen
Welcome to the OHBaby site Smile
All the best with your TTC journey, I hope it is a happy and short wait. MFP (myfitnesspal.com) is what I use to help me control my weight.
It is free to join and you can download an app to your smart phone to have it there as well as on your computer via their webiste.
If you are trying to maintain your weight or gain (or in my case, lose) it gives you a goal amount of calories to aim for each day.
The key is being honest with yourself and logging in everything that you do eat. Being aware of what goes in and how it all contributes to your end of day result can help minimise stress
over body changes and keep you on track for being healthy.
You are also very welcome to join us in the healthy weight-loss forum.  I found it did much to keep me accountable and motivated to keep on going. You will see many of our ladies have already got their BFPs. The teeny amount of work they did on their body readiness paid huges dividends.
Best wishes
HT
