QuoteReplyTopic: Paying for Scans? UK traveller Posted: 06 November 2013 at 1:12am
hi guys
hoping someone might be able to help or point me in the right direction. I'm from the UK and spending 7 weeks in NZ in Dec/Jan....just found out I'm pregnant, early though, and will be away from the UK for my 12 wk scan and any downs syndrome tests. Does anyone know if I can pay to have it done privately in NZ? I know there's a reciprocal health agreement but I doubt it'd cover routine stuff like scans.
I'm not sure but you could contact Horizon Radiology or ARG (Auckland Radiology Group) and ask them? I would suggest contacting them soon as sometimes there is a wait at some places.
Here is some info I found online
I'm visiting New Zealand from the UK and am pregnant. Can I access any free or subsidised maternity services?
A reciprocal agreement between New Zealand and the United Kingdom provides for treatment for NZ and UK citizens that, in the opinion of a medical practitioner (doctor) is required promptly for a condition that arose after arrival in New Zealand, or for a pre-existing condition that required, or would have required urgent treatment. This is generally interpreted as covering, for pregnancy, full term childbirth services, or premature delivery.
Related conditions, such as toxaemia, would also be covered if, in the opinion of a medical practitioner, prompt treatment was required.
Routine antenatal and postnatal services would not be covered.
You can pay to have the scans done privately and a GP will be able to organise the blood test for you. Both of the clinics Mumma2be suggested you contact above could do it in Auckland, also, Mercy Radiology Group (in Auckland). It would be a good idea to contact them now and make a scan appointment as they often have waiting lists.
