so my god daughter, was born early and addicted to drugs, the grandmother got custody of her, since she got home, the grandmother has plopped her in front of the tv, that was the first thing she did once home from hospital, she watches tv like crazy, and they pick her up almost as soon as she cries. now i watch her ALOT, she can not just lay on the floor with toys and be by herself even for a second she will start to wine, she is really fussy all the time, i think its cause she has been in front of the tv soo much. but my question is what can i do to help her, so she can be by herself on the floor for a minute while i make a bottle or anything else. even if your down there with her, she will only be happy for about a minute.than she starts her whining. she is addicted to tv, i know it cant be good for her to be in front of the tv, and i think it has something to do with her not being able to be by herself at all, she is fussy even sometimes when your holding her. any suggestions on what i can do for the baby? and how i can approach the grandmother about not having her in frint of the tv all the time

Firstly how old is the child?
Secondly Id be calling CYFS, putting a child in front of a TV, as you are sysing happens a lot, is not looking after them, it's neglect, plain and simple.
Anyone remember Nia Glassie?

You could start by putting on the radio next to her or something with nursery rhymes on it so 'she has company' - maybe search the second hand toy shops for a toy that has alot of colour or flashing lights? Just suggestions but worth a shot. Or sing to her and slowly walk away, it may take time but if she got use to the TV she will get use to other stimulus as well, just breaking a habit (hopefully).

But if you are concerned about her welfare then talk to some professionals about it.

Good luck.
