QuoteReplyTopic: How to buy a pram from US Posted: 20 August 2012 at 10:06pm
Hi all
I really want to purchase the UPPAbaby Vista 2012 from america but wanted to know if anyone has brought a pram from overseas before and if so whats the best / cheapest way to go about it?
Haven't bought a pram but have bought lots of other stuff - as kiwigal says you need to be aware of the extra charges you may have to pay at the border.
Assuming that the total cost of the pram, including shipping, is over NZD $400, you will have to pay import duty and GST. Import duty is 5-20% depending on the category the item falls under. The amount of duty gets added to the total cost and then you will have to pay 15% of that in GST.
So if the pram cost NZD $900 plus $100 shipping (for example and ease of maths!) the total cost is NZD $1000. You would have to pay import duty of (for example) 10% of that which is another $100 for a new total of $1100. You would then have to pay 15% GST which takes the total cost to $1265. So in addition to the $900 for the pram itself, you would be paying an additional $365 in shipping and taxes. Ouch!!
I have and it works out that you need to add about 17.5% ontop for duty and tax. www.babyontherun.com ship here and there shipping prices are not to bad. You will need to email them for a quote. I just orded our baby carseat from them.
