I need some etiquette advice. We are having my husband's younger brother and his girlfriend (A) over for dinner on Wednesday night. I was planning on doing roast lamb and I just found out that A is vegetarian.

Be honest - do you think it is OK for me to prepare that meal and just not serve A any meat, rather than cooking a separate dish for her? She would be able to eat:

- cauliflower & broccoli cheese (which also will have peas and spinach in it)
- roast potatoes, kumara and red peppers

Obviously I will cook the vegetables in a separate dish to the lamb so there will be no cross-contamination.

Another member of the family (girlfriend of the third brother) is vegetarian and my MIL usually prepares something extra just for her, liked stuffed mushrooms, but with a two year old and a wee baby I was kind of hoping to avoid the extra work...but would rather do that than insult/upset A of course.

I briefly considered changing tack completely and making a completely vegetarian meal but my husband is a total carnivore (as am I) and now has his heart set on the lamb!

Thoughts??

Personally, I'd just do a vegetarian meal, because then there's no awkwardness. Could you do the lamb another night for hubby? He'd get more that way anyway

I would cook the roast & have plenty of veg & maybe throw a salad together also. Keep it simple & easy.

We have a vegetarian in the family who does eat chicken through.

when SIL comes to family dinners if we are all having raost we just make sure that the roast vege's werent in with the meat, and that there's heaps and a filling salad too (tabouli (sp.) is her favourite) and she's never complained as at home she cooks meat for hubby (a dairy farmer) she just doesnt eat any herself

I'm a long term vego. What you said sounds fine so long as they are cooked seperate but yeah maybe add a salad or else as well. It sucks going to have a meal at a meat eaters house and being stuck with eating just one thing thats bland and boring while everyone else is eating something they obviously fine extremely tasty. My MIL usually gets me a mini quiche/pie pot from new world bakery to have instead of the meat portion and then I eat whatever the veges are along with the others.

Depends on the person whether they will mind. I know some who do mind this and others who don't.

Personally i would make a totally vegetarian meal and save the roast for another day.

Same for me Max265389. The flavor of heated up tortillas is horrendous for me, and for a long time I had troubles with finding the solution to this problem, I really enjoy tortillas. I searched for hours online hoping to find an alternative, and I found tortilla warmers, which btw can be used for other food as well. After buying it and using it for the first time I understood that this is the purchase I needed to do to enjoy my meals at the fullest. However, there are many warmers, if you are having struggles like I had, here you can find the solution https://www.thewindupspace.com/best-tortilla-warmer-reviews/

Are these warmers expensive? Could you give more details about you experience in DM?
