Check out Turtle Beach Resort at Mermaid Beach.  It is just out of the hub bub of Surfers Paradise, and there is a handy bus stop right outside the resort.  Very family oriented - in fact pretty much purpose built with families in mind.  We went in November 2011 and had a blast. 

Also, read the feedback for your choosen accom on TripAdvisor.com before booking anything.
