Hi ladies

I have seen alot of daycares say they folow Reggio Emelia.

Can anyone explain it to me? Have googled but don't quite understand the difference between a daycare that doesn't follow it.

Thanks

I should know as the daycare my girls go to follows this but I'm not 100% sure - it's in the same sort of camp as Montessori I believe as the head teachers and centre director are Montessori trained, although it's not a Montessori centre...

My two youngest are at a Reggio daycare, I absolutely love it and cant rate it high enough. However they arent as full on into it as other centres are, and I think it definitely depends on the managers of the centre as to what degree it is taken.

They encourage self-led learning in everything they do. The teachers aren't so much teachers as they are guiders. Everything is centred around the childrens interests and curiosity, and they dictate what they want to learn about and how they want to learn about it (to an extent!! ). Im not sure that it is quite as full on as montessori but that could just be the approach they take at our centre?
It is pretty hard to explain tbh, our centre owner is really into it and is so passionate to talk to about it, I would imagine it would be the case with other centres so it could be good to pop into one and have a chat? Sorry Im not sure how much use I have been

I should add my girls moved recently from a centre I was happy with (big chain centre) to this new one I outlined above, and while I thought the other centre was good it doesn't compare to the new centre with the Reggio/Montessori approach. My eldest now asks if she can go to daycare on weekends!!

My two daughters also go to a centre that is based on the Reggio philosophy. It is child led learning. The girls centre explained that they are not into giving children facts, that the best way they can learn is by doing it themselves and having a say in what they learn and as said above to an extent.

My oldest is currently learning about birds and the other day at centre they made nests out od sticks and mud. I love that! Their old centre did nothing like this.

From my understanding I think in montessori the children have to ask the parents to come and look at their learning. Whereas at our centre they have a book where parents can see what they've done each day.

This is definitely the way forward to creating life long learners..

Just wanted to add that children become intrinsically motivated.
