Topic: reducing/weaning off fenugreek etc Posted: 08 April 2011 at 12:12pm |
does anyone know if its possible to wean off it and still have a decent milk supply? its costing quite a bit ( $50 ish per week along with blessed thistle) so wondering if i can get away with weaning off it? or even just reducing to 2 tabs three times a day to stretch the bottles out a bit?

Any reason you are taking this?
I never took any supplements, and never had problems with milk supply.
If you do need to take it, maybe you could buy fenugreek seeds and make tea of it. A small bag of fenugreek seeds is pretty cheap.

I bought Fenugreek tea from supermarket (New World) - Healtheries brand, it was about $4 for 30 bags - much cheaper than the stuff from baby shops.

You could try redusing one dosage per day, or halving dosage once a day for a few dys, and if its not affecting supply, then drop another dose or half dose etc, until either supply starts dropping and you go back up to the doasge you were on prior to dropping, or until you are no longer using supplements at all. This is the plan for when I finally come off domperidone (although after Fridays session with the LC its come to light that I may never be able to stop taking them until I stop feeding!)
