Topic: What keeps your baby up at night? Posted: 30 July 2010 at 4:47am |
We are having another really crap night here - not just frequent wake-ups but struggling to get her back down at all. I've spent several hours trying to work out what the problem was, but don't have a lot on my list of options. What else should I be considering? So far I have:
* too hot/too cold
* nappy dirty/too wet
* teething
* snotty nose/coughing
* separation anxiety
* the stupid steer the butcher was meant to get yesterday mooing in the holding paddock (sigh)
I've finally opted for teething, and some pamol and a teething ring later I think I might be ok to head to bed.

My DS is definitely teething. And despite Nurofen for children last night which usually works - he woke at 3am and 5am and slightly unsettled before his usual 11pm wake up too. So I pulled him into bed with me and didn't get much sleep! So you are not alone!!!

* Upset tummy - some kind of solids not agreeing with him?
* Sore throat
* Losing dummy.
* Not self settling
* Light coming through curtains
* Too dark (not sure if that's an older thing or can bother them at this age too)
* A noise
* Developmental eg trying to crawl/roll/stand in sleep and waking self up
Good idea to put a list together. Cooper woke last night at 3.30am and he went to sleep ok, then woke up 15 mins later!! Then wouldn't go back to sleep in his bed so came in with us.

List covers lots of good things- not self settling and the on set of large poos have been things that have kept us up.

Lol, Tali, he won't be bothering us tonight at least, poor boy.
Poos is a good one, we've had that before. And I left reflux off the list, even though that's our number one issue!
She can self settle, but last night neither her, DH or I could get her to settle.
She woke up this morning with awful conjunctivitis, so that might have been part of it too. I'm squirting BM in her eyes (and all over her face, whoops) so hopefully that fixes it soon.

Jesse is doing this regularly now and no matter what i do the only thing that works is feeding him. granted i dont try the other things very hard cos i know that a boob will fix the prob. He does seem to be wanting milk a lot more at the moment, during the day and has even got himself a new regular 11pm to the dot wakeup for a feed when it used to be a 2am thing only.........
Someone needs to tell him hes not a newborn anymore and on solids so shouldnt be waking more!!

The neighbours revving their hunk of sh!t car in their garage.
The stupid dog barking
My grandparents who think it's acceptable to go to bed at 5am...
People slamming doors.
Otherwise normally my baby wakes because she's teething, she's too hot/cold, she has a sore tummy and will usually spill when I pick her up, she has wind...

Haha Lou, don't worry, I'd fed her - was definitely going to rule out the east sruff like hunger first.
4 hours at the late docs tonight and my poor poppet (and I) have sinus infections and she has conjunctivitus. I'd taken DD in, and at least we saw a great doc who took one look at me and said he was checking me over too and even wrote me a prescription at no extra charge. So here is hoping things start to improve from here.
Will add those other things to my list for next time...

last night i think my snoring woke him up......ive got the flu and am really blocked up so was even waking myself up snoring.
So hub and Jesse slept downstairs, jesse in hammock and low and behold he slept through.........first time in ages. (which is perfect cos i dont think i couldve got up)
so its either one of two things, he sleeps much better in hammock or someones snoring is waking him up(hub snores on and off also)
your doc sounds good!! not many like that around. I got charged $34 for my 6yr old to take a 2sec look at his ecezma, when i was there with Jesse anyway
hope you all feel better soon
