Topic: BFing, AF, and sleeps? Posted: 16 July 2010 at 5:10pm |
I was just wondering how long it took for exclusive/fully BFing mums to get AF back and what the max time was that they went with out feeding regularly?
DD is nearly 7 weeks old, generally has at least a 6 hour sleep over night... Since shes sleeping so well I keep waiting for AF to show up, just wondering what others experiences were?

I got my first one back at 18months (but I do have PCOS) I BF DS until just over 12 months when he self weaned but for about 6 weeks before he weaned himself he was only having one super quick feed a day.
It's amazing just how different everyone is.
on a side note...I can't believe she is 7weeks old already...time sure does fly!

12 months when we were down to just 2 feeds, and then not again till 15 months when she was weaned totally. I wasn't doing any night feeds from about 6-7 months either.
BUT there were people in our due thread that were doing a similar number/timing of feeds, and theirs came back at 8 weeks or earlier, so really just does depend on the individual.

nearly 7 months so far, and still haven't had it. Generally I don't go more than 2-3 hours between feeds day and night. What was it like for your mum?

DS consistently slept through from around 10pm through till around 6/7am between the ages of 3 to 5 months, although for a few months after that he was feeding to sleep right through the night (we were co-sleeping) but I only got AF back a week or so ago, and he is now 10.5 months.

DS is 6 1/2 months and still no AF here. He is nursing every 2 1/2 hours daily and has just recently gone from 2 1/2 hourly at night to one 6 hour stretch so I am expecting it back soon, but we'll see.

I got AF at 15 weeks PP and Jake was feeding 3 hourly from 8am-7pm then twice between midnight-8am... I was still breastfeeding at least once a night when I got pg when Jake was 9.5 months and 3-5 times during the day.
Of the mums in our antenatal that had a section I got mine back the latest... thought that was interesting!

DD is 5 months and still nothing yet. She started going long stretches at night from 7 weeks and I thought AF was going to come back then, but no. She started sleeping right thru consistently between 9-12 weeks, but has gone back to needing a night feed, with the occassional night she might sleep right thru. She does feed frequently throughout the day though (still on demand).
With first DD it was completely different. AF came back bang on 4 months, fully BF and still feeding at least 2x a night.

Mine came back at 4.5 months, by then I was expressing, not BFing, and was only getting the equivalent of one full feed per day. 4 days after I finally gave up expressing, AF showed in full force and then some!

With Lachie it didn't come back until I stopped feeding at 13 months (I had only been feeding him once a day for a month or two). I got one AF and then preg.
With Tess, I never got AF back, and I was down to feeding her once a day from 10 or 11 months, got preg without an AF, when she was almost 12 months.
Everyone is really different. Would be nice to know what your body is actually doing - I hated waiting!

Got mine back when DS was about 3 months old and was still exclusively breastfeeding and feeding probably 3-4 hourly at night so I felt rather ripped off lol.
What does having a c sect mean...does AF usually come back ealier for c sect mums...coz I had one?
