My daughter Ruby ended up with an almost really serious accident today in a shopping mall with an automatic door.
This was in a parents room, she had her hand on the glass of the door when it slid open .... in an instant it had taken her hand with it as it retracted into the wall. She was literally pinned there as it jammed up the door, I was unable to get the door open with the open button as it just moved slightly and refused to budge.
There was no option but to yank on her arm to try and get her stuck hand out (while she screamed the place down, poor thing), luckily it came out. Moments later it had swelled up. Luckily she was able to still use it (no fractures!) but no doubt it is sprained slightly and will end up black and blue by tomorrow.
I have complained to the mall management, I don't want this to happen to another child, apparently the sensors don't go down to kid height despite it being in a parents room 
Please please be careful and tell your toddlers not to touch the doors

Ouch! Poor wee dot!
I hope her hand isn't too bruised and she's not too upset about it all.
Thanks for the warning too, it is something that could easily happen to either of my kids!

Holy crap that is scary.
Thanks for warning, you just don't think about that at times! Kids always put their hands on moving doors as well!

Jeepers, poor Ruby! And what a fright for you too. Thanks for the warning, would never have thought about the sensors not being that low  Hope Ruby's hand heals quickly too.

Her wrist is swollen and bruised so its a nasty injury, I would of thought it was broken if she hadn't been able to use it properly (she is happily playing using that wrist and hand without guarding it). I guess if her arm wasn't as chubby it could easily have broken.
I am hoping that the health and safety person looks at the form I filled out and does something about it! The poor receptionist in the centre management office had me blubbing (through the shock of it all) and feeling angry, she was lovely though.

That is so scary. You might still want to take her to dr for x-ray though, my youngest got her heel slammed in van sliding door, took her to a&e, though it wasn't swollen only bruised & she was putting weight on it- it was fractured. Not that they did anything for it, just a pamol script.

I must admit I have wondered about those doors especially now that Rowan always wants to push the button to open them.

You poor thing. My son got stuck as he was looking out a shop window and someone came in activating the door which then slid over his arm. We didn't think to gauge how far from the door he was that he was in danger. It pinned him to his elbow but before we could react the door closed again taking a substantial layer of skin with it. Really nasty stuff. So I can totally sympathise with you and second that automatic doors are dangerous even the glass windows beside them. I would expect a parents room to be to a higher standard than a regular door though. Hope her arm gets better soon.

I am pretty sure it's not fractured but being a wrist swelling in silly places I am waiting for the baby to wake up and I'll take her to the local A&E, just because if it is broken they can plaster it.
Of course this happens when hubby is stuck at work 6am-6pm!

Owch Poor Ruby! That is just awful.
I have always been scared of automatic doors (and car windows too :s). I think my girls have picked up on my own fears and keep their distance too... Half of them never even pick me up I am too short

An hour wait for the most pathetic consult I have ever seen (I've seen a few being a nurse!) ... if it's still sore in a week then they might x-ray it
