or snowboard???

How old were they and how did it go? Did you get lessons and leave them to it or teach them yourself? Any advice?

I have skiied since I was little but now snowboard and really want to get my kiddies into it when it gets a bit warmer. I would love to start them snowboarding but I think skiing is probably easier for littlies. So anyone that has attempted it I would love to hear how it went.

Cheers

Alia ski's. Bit scary really, she's really going for it last season!

I mostly taught her but she just kinda did. My parents put her in a couple of lessons but she got pissy with those cause she wanted to go down the big slope!

I too have skiied since I was 5 & at one point was going to be a ski instructor so I felt that I was capable. Last year when she was 5 was when she got enough strength in her legs to control turning. So 5 or 6 is a good age but definitely introduce them to the idea before that.

After seeing so many parents in Waiouru get shi&&y at their kids while trying to teach them I swore that if my kids learnt to ski I was paying someone to teach them to ski.

I was a puree feeder, forward facing, cot sleeping, pram pushing kind of Mum... and my kids survived!

We are going down to the mountain for a week next week and are going to give DD a go on ski's for the first time. DH is a snowboarder and I am a skier, but we thought that skiing is probably easier for her to learn, especially with balance etc.

We also took her last year but she was way too young to understand and preferred wizzing down the hill on her sled and making snow men

Will let you know how it goes!!

Thanks everyone. Think I might give them a day or two this year to get them used to the idea and see how it goes.

I was watching the little kids learning yesterday and they looked so cute going down the tiny slope. I can't wait!

I took DD to the snow when she was four and put her on skis. It was quite stressful and I gave up when I realised I was one of those sh*tty parents. She had far more fun just playing in the snow. I tried again when she was about 7 or 8 and paid for the first time package which included a lesson, beginners pass and ski hire. She loved it and picked it up really quickly.

IMHO unless you are very experienced yourself and passionate about skiing you will have a better time having fun in the snow until they are about 7 or 8 at least.
