Hi, we're finally going to get "proper" internet, but are having trouble deciding what company to go with, I was wondering does anyone have any experience with "Woosh" or any of the satellite companies? We can't get anything that'd need to be connected to a landline (would cost us Crapload to have a landline put in since neighbours ripped it out when they re-did their driveway- Grr). We're in Taranaki. Thanks in advance!

That was nice of them Tictacjunkie- hope their internet is crap

We used woosh - was fine - but they are very sensitive to where you are placed - so if you havent already call and check if they can even service you - and its not a bad price $40 a month or so from memory
We are out in the wops now - have wireless broadband - its ok - through vodafone - $80 or so a month for 3 gig and phone line with unlimitid national calling which is good if your family lives in NZ (which our dont) but my cell bill has gone down loads!

We are with woosh, have been for 4 years, never had any major problems with their service, most issues we have had have been to do with the telecom lines.

We pay $70 a month for 5gb and phone line

From what I have seen, Woosh don't do wireless in Taranaki. I am looking into wireless phone and broadband through Vodafone though - but I have a laptop. I would think you could use a Vodem with a desktop PC though, because it's a USB connection?

Thanks everyone so far! It seems all the info is online which is a bit of a pita when you don't have internet to start with! Thank goodness OhBaby is a mobile ph friendly site! I think Woosh runs off XT in Taranaki now, but not 100% on that. A vodem is on our "to consider" list. We want to look at satellite too, seems a bit to set up (abt $300ish) but alright with the monthly costs. Does it fade in & out with the rain or sun the way Sky does? Anyone?

Our connection is a bit random at times, but DH says thats because it has lots of other apps on it and the vodafone one is a bit sensitive (he is in IT - TBH - I dont know hat he is talking about half the time)
Dosent seem to affected specifically by weather - and wireless conenction comes with all the bits you need, free, on a plan - have you a friend who is connected -the info is on the site - phoning vodafone is like pulling teeth - there customer service is painful - but you might be lucky and get someone who speaks good enough english and knows the products
Woosh didnt like the weather much but we were in a gully so maybe it was just that

Haven't used this company personally, but know of people who have and they seem pretty happy with their satelite connection. Copied from their website:

We’ve invested millions of dollars on clever technology to be able to bring to all New Zealand WebConnect – high-speed internet services with affordable plans. We're happy to help you select the best Webconnect solution for your needs, so what are you waiting for?  Give us a call now and see what you've been missing out on. 0800 FARMSIDE."

we use Xnet.

we pay 67 a month for line and internet and $1 per GB of internet we use.
on average we pay 90 a month for 3 peoples internet use (not limited at all either) and calls.

calls are cheap though. 27c a min to either vodafone or telecom.

I did a check on the Woosh site, and they aren't available where we are (in New Plymouth), only the fixed homeline and broadband.

Cool thank you minik8e, that narrows it down a bit! And to everyone else as well. DH very interested in Xnet! Will go up to mum's (in NP, we're in Stratford) & have a look on her computer. Might get DH to phone Farmside too- he's way more technical than I am- I'd just get confused! Thanks again, =)
