Topic: Which Breast Pump??? Posted: 10 June 2010 at 10:46am |
Hi,
I am returning to work soon so I need to buy a breast pump to take with me to work. I won't always have access to power so should I just buy a manual pump or get an electric one that can run on batteries? Also which brands/pumps do you recommend? TIA

I really love the Medela (sp?) ones, they are great! Especially the electric ones! (Got to try one out in hospital but then found it retails for $250+)
I have an Avent manual one and I find it does the job. Got it for about $100 I think...
TBH I prefer the electric ones, seems like less strain on your wrists iygwim.

Maisey if you are going to be working I would go with electric with battery option as manual pumps aren't often as effective.
I really like Medelas too.

Thanks girls, think I will go with the medela mini electric. I have used it before and liked it. Only just realised it could run on batteries too!

I have the Avent isis and find it great, it also has a battery pack for when you don't have electricity and a manual attachment.

Another vote from me for the medela swing. I had to use it everyday for 5 months after returning to work and it was brilliant. Got mine 2nd hand off TM. It can be run off main power or batteries.

I'm using a medela at the moment and I really like it EXCEPT for the amount of noise it makes! There is a parents room at work where I can keep the milk and express (there's a microwave, steriliser and fridge in there), but it isn't very sound proofed so I get to hear our Finance department having meetings and they get to hear me expressing. The noise didn't worry me at home, but it somehow seems really really loud at work!
I've heard the avent electric ones are quieter?

I noticed that about the Medela ones, but I found them to be much more efficient at pumping. Although I haven't tried an Avent electric. The Avent manual is kinda noisey imo.

Tried the Medela mini electric and it really hurt me, was noisy and didnt get as much milk out as the Avent.

I have the Medula Swing and it is brilliant, DS was prem so had to express for him until he was ready. I had the mini electric and managed to burn out the moter. When we went to buy a new one the lady in Baby Factory said the mini electric are only ment to used once a day and the swing was the cheapest one for using as many times as you wanted. I needed to express 6 times a day so we went with that one. I don't find it nearly as noisy as the mini electric. oh and it is really small aswell it even has a belt clip why I don't know it might be discreet but the shield and bottle sticking off ur boob isn't!!
