Just wondering at what age I can start to increase Mac's awake times during the day?
At the moment I try to get him back down to sleep within the hour, but of late he seems to be resisting more than usual. This could be cause of his new cot that we've just transfered him to, or maybe it could be because he wants to be awake more?
Not sure how I can safely make this call as we have had big problems with him getting overtired and then we end up with a distraught baby that can't sleep, as opposed to won't sleep.
Esme is up anywhere from 1hour-2 atm she's not in a routine so I'm not worried about her being awake for random amounts of time. She is 16 weeks tomorrow. She's been doing over an hour for about 3-4 weeks I just let her tired signs dictate when I put her down.
I'd try leaving him up for a bit longer but have the last bit before you put him down as quiet time (cuddles/story). That way he's winding down before you put him to sleep.
I agree with EsmesMum. Just look for tired signs and you wll get an idea of how long she should be awake for.
I am a mum that likes routine - for my sake as well as bubs. At about this age Amelia was doing 4 x 45 min sleeps during the day. Up for 1 hour to1 and 1/2 hours at a time. I found that when Amelia was resisting one of her sleeps that she was moving to a smaller number of sleeps per day.
All I can say is to maybe give it a go for one less nap per day (and therefore a larger awake time) and see how she copes. You can always go back to her "normal" routine the next day if it doesn't work out.
Im not controlling anything, I leave that totally up to Jesse. If hes tired he sleeps and im fairly confident about the signs these days. He sometimes will sleep lots during the day and other times hes far too nosey (like when where out) to sleep..........the only prob i finding at the moment is he goes from super happy to screaming tired in a split second........but luckily he doesnt take too much to settle........at the moment
Im just going with the flow cos the flow seems to be going nice at the mo, but if i needed to change it then i suppose i would have to think about how etc, but if what he is doing is working for you then go with it.............does any of that make sense?
