Its just ringing bells but Tom has had a really red cheek for a few days now and it doesnt go away. Its not sun burn it doesnt look like teething but it does look like a slap (or like he has slept on it).
No other rash but he's been a bit funny through the night the last couple of nights and woken a few times quite unsettled. We have also just gotten through a cold...I still have the cough.
I am not too concerned except that I am hosting coffee group on Thursday and we have 2 pregnant women in our group. If I understand correctly Tom shouldnt be contagious...but if James is brewing it....
When I had it (the joys of working with children) it was hot to the touch and kinda lace like looking if that makes sense, I also had cold type symptoms as well, runny nose sore throat etc
Alia had it once but can't remember. I remember she got it from kindy & it's quite infectious but I think they are only infectious in the lead up not actually with the rash
TBH I wouldn't worry about it too much. When Jack was in hospital one of his tests came back that he'd had slap cheek at some point but they said its no biggy and that 80% of children get it. It's really not a big deal at all and the docs said its basically impossible, bar going to the doctors or hospital and getting the bloods, to figure out if it actually is that or not.
So basically the opinion from the docs was that it's nothing to worry about. I was pregnant at the time and they said it looked like he might have just had it and they said it was fine with me. He's had it a couple of times I think.
One of the boys I looked after while I was pregnant (early stages) had suspected slap cheek. It actually turned out not to be slap cheek but I checked with my ob/gyn before I knew that as Dr Google had me all worried about MC risks and things! The Ob said that most women have immunity to it as they would have had it as a child and ALSO the risk of it causing a MC is REALLY low. If it will make you feel better, you could take Tom to the doc and let the pregnant ladies know what you suspect and they can make their own choices.
Both kids seem fine now and I had an upset tummy today so no coffee anyway. I wouldnt be suprised if they had it....I think it is often mild and you dont realise they have something
