Hi. Does anyone have any advice on how to get a 5 month old to drink water? My wee man won't take it from a bottle (I think because the texture is so different from his formula) and I've tried a sipper cup but it comes out too fast and he gags. I try to do it when he is hungry before a bottle but still no luck. Any tips would be great.
we have a nuby sipper cup, DD has to suck it out similar to a bottle but its real easy for her to hold. She doesn't like water much either though but will drink from the cup if there is milk in it
I'd try a cup too....you can control the speed for him. James took to a cup early....Tom didnt. I had major issues getting him to drink water...it was the soft spouted nuby ones that he took to...James doesnt like those and handles a standard sippy cup easily....they are all different
We have a Watties sippy cup that Corban has been using from around 5mths. It has a valve that means it's non-spill and he has to suck to drink. He loves it and I have to hide it at meal times cos he would rather drink water than eat his food
I just gave H a nuby sippy cup with some water in it and let him play. Also, a pump bottle is a great idea - but then H has been fascinated by my drink bottles and has been reaching for them for ages.
My mum used to give him water off a spoon as well, so you could try that?

Snap, Spencer was awful with drinking water pretty much until he could walk around holding a cup. Kyle on the other hand, I worry he drinks too much and he took to using any cup/bottle straight away.
If you are worried about the water intake rather than not being able to use a cup then you could try putting ice cubes in a fresh food feeder (one or those mesh bags with a handle, or you can make your own with some muslin and elastic band) and let baby suck on that. Really good for when they are teething as well.
Jody took a few weeks before she would drink from her sippy cup. We used to give her water on a spoon so she got used to the 'taste' and decided she liked it. We always offered the cup too and then on day she just used the cup.
When we used the spoon we would squirt the water from her sippy cup onto the spoon so she knew where it came from.
My son LOVES water in any way shape or form but one thing we noticed is that we always drink water from Pump bottles and one day offered it to him and he took it. Most of it goes on his bib but I can hear him take gulps when he wants to. I think it's more about playing than anything so go that way. I also give him a sippy cup (a Tupperware one) that he has to suck to get the water out. I'm also trying a straw but to no avail.
