Hi All,

While I realise that this is a loaded topic we may have to do this due for family medical histories.

Has anyone out there had it done? In Auckland? Experiences?

thanks heaps!!

Very loaded topic! There is a circumcision thread under "1st baby, 2nd or more?".

We had DS done in Auckland. I was against it but his Dad really wanted it done. We argued over it for ages till I finally gave in. We used a surgeon in Remuera who has since retired. He used the plastibell method which involves administering local anaesthetic, pulling the foreskin over a plastic ring which cuts off it's blood supply & then over the next week or so it just falls off. No cutting involved & less risk of infection or complications. Although I was very anti the whole thing, DS really didn't suffer at all through the process & he has had no ill after-effects. We did it when he was about 5 weeks old. I think it cost about $165 or something like that & took only a few minutes. As I said the guy who did it has retired.

I think there is a doctor in Blockhouse Bay who uses the plastibell method. Other than that, some jewish friends of ours had their son done by an asian surgeon in the city but that was the cutting method.

Have you asked your midwife for some numbers of people who do it? Or otherwise just try searching the net maybe?

I know it's a bit of a heated topic, & don't let other people make you feel bad about your decision. I think we are all just doing the best we can & sometimes we make choices that maybe are not the norm but that doesn't make us bad parents.

Good luck.

Hi OdetteNZ,

Just jumped over there and had a read. Must say people on this site are MUCH more restrained than another popular kiwi based one... Searched other site and was a LOT surprised by the posts.

Thanks so much for the advice!!

Ha ha, I know the one you mean NikkiCham, as I am a regular on there, and yes, there are a few psychos over there aren't there?

With regards to the topic, I don't feel strongly either way but do wonder as to why people get it done? Ok, religious reasons fair enough, but other than that there is no real reason (apart from the odd medical ones I know, but most people aren't doing it because they have to but because they choose to)

I'm assuming the other site might be one with 2 words ,prob the most popular site to buy things on.There was a very heated discussion on there over the weekend.
We got our son done last year,we are in Hamilton. The Dr used the plastibell method as mentioned above. It cost us $180 which we got back through Southern Cross.

all my boys are done becoz we choose to have them done to prevent medical probs later in life.

my older 2 were done by the same person Odettenz is refering too but yes he retired much to my disliking lol so ds3 was done by a dr at a clinic in hillsborough. and we are expecting our 4th boy and he will be getting done also by the dr in hillsborough.

im more affraid to have ds3 immunised as it appears ds1 may have mild autisum though we r still waiting for peads to comfirm that.

Rorylex if I am having anotehr boy it would be really helpful to have the dr in Hillsborough's number so we can have him done. Do you mind PMing me with the number if it's not too much hassle? Or even just his name so I can look it up? Thanks so much :)

Hi All,

Other forum is only 1 word and won't let you talk about cloth nappies. Only found it by searching as is an older topic...

My husbands foreskin wouldnt retract so he had to have circumcision at 3 years. So really just trying to be prepared. A bit hard as we aren't telling anyone that we are having a boy so can't really ask friends / family without giving it away!

Both my partner and his father had to be circumcised for medical reasons so due to the family history we will definately be having any sons circumcised.

I will also be getting any sons I have circumcised.
The boys in my family have also had it done for medical reasons & also as my DH is & I think it is nice for sons to be the same as their father.

And thats the kind of comment that usually sparks the circumcision debate.

Lol AzzaNZ.
Nothing wrong with a good debate as long as other peoples opinions are always respected.
