Im having an elective CS on Thursday and I was wondering, for those who have had an elective, how long did it take for your milk to come in??
After my emergency C Section my milk came in on the Wednsday, had Caden the Monday at 1am, but had laboured beforehand.

I plan on putting baby the breast as soon as they hand her to me after they have quickly checked her over.

I had Spencer on the Monday morning and milk came in Friday afternoon. He was ok with just having colostrum though, their tummies are really tiny remember and it's normal for them to lose some weight as well.
(not trying to preach just reassure and remind )

There is a lot of negativity around c/s and breastfeeding, but remember it's not always the case, Spencer was trying to suckle as we were being wheeled to recovery and then he was straight on the boob no trouble at all. I couldn't feed him in surgery but had cuddles and then fed him in recovery which was only 20 mins after his arrival.

Good luck for Thursday (out of noseyness will you be trying for a vbac if things happen before then?)

If baby is left on your chest and not "interferred" with she will "crawl" her way up to yur nipple on her own. See if you can watch a dvd called "follow me mum" if you can, or look on you tube. The only
rouble" with CS is the same thing with having an epi, your milk can sometimes take longer to come it, but it will, don't panic! And everything cuppatea said is true. Don't let anyone tell you different.

Thanks girls
My midwife is going to make sure I get to breastfeed her as soon as I can, as she is going to be therw while I ahve the CS. I really really want to be able to breastfeed succesfully this time, and I was a bit worried that having an elective might cause issues with it..

Marisa, I saw my MW today and had an internal and my cervix is not favourable at all so it doesnt look like I am going into labour anytime soon, but I guess if i do go into labour either tonight or tomorrow then I will give VBAC a go..I am just totally over being pregnant and things feel like they are headed in the same way they went with Caden.
So I decided today after chatting to my MW etc that an elective asap is best for us

My milk came in 3 days after the girls were born. This was with them in NICU, no skin to skin, and me expressing into a syringe and then a breastpump. lol

You'll be sweet

Good luck I think you'll do great. Try not to worry about when your milk will come in. You need to rest and take care of yourself.

Just really express to your midwife the things that YOU really want. When I had Ashlee (emergency CS), there were so many things that I didn't get that I was determined to have with Madison. I didn't get skin on skin with her straight after birth because I didn't have an independent midwife and there wasn't anyone available to sit with me and baby in recovery and she wasn't fed within an hour of birth. This may or may not have had any effect on the fact that I had big issues with breastfeeding, but I really believe that things could have been different if we'd started out 'right'.

Hi Sheza, my milk came in on day 5 after my emergency cs. My son was born tongue tied too so I think his poor latch also delayed my milk coming in. Unfortunately we're not b'feeding anymore due to other challenges I had.

Goodluck for tomorrow, how very exciting.
