Topic: From 2 naps to1? Posted: 14 July 2009 at 10:39pm |
Just wondering at what age some of your wee ones cut thier day naps from 2 to 1?
Jaye is 10 months old and for the last few weeks I have struggled to get him down for both his morning and afternoon naps.
I have tried one nap for the last too days but by 4.30pm he is buggered!
He gets up at 9am for brekky, bottle round 10.30, lunch at 12, bed by 1pm.
Just wondering if 10 months is too young? I have asked a few of my friends who have toddlers but they cannot recall the age their children changed their sleeping habits.

10 months is 2 young to only have one nap a day, but miss 3 did the same thing, only lasted a few days then it was back to having 2 naps a day (although the times were changed), she dropped 1 nap a day at about 15mths.
You may find that if he is up at 9am and back down at 1pm that its a too short a time to be up, you could try putting him down a little later.
how long does he sleep for

We are in the process of trying to figure this out too but Hayden is a couple of weeks out from turning one. He was having 2 sleeps of 1.5 hrs each but because he was awake for longer the afternoon sleep was running into bed time and we also were starting our day in the 5am's.
I think the transition is going to be a bit messy for a little bit but its not too bad so far. So at the moment he wakes at 7.30am for booby and breakfast around 8.30am, snack at 11am and sleep at 11.30am for 2 hrs (occasionally 3hrs) then we have lunch, he gets scratchy at around 4 - 5pm so we go for a walk or if we are out in the car he'll have a quick nap but I dont put him to bed. He is really ready for bed at 7pm and as I said sleeps til 7.30am now instead of 5.30am.
Sometimes I worry I've jumped the gun but short of waking him up after a 30min nap (which he HATES and gets REALLY upset over) in the afternoon this seemed like the best option for us.

We dropped the morning nap around the time H & E turned one. It was hell lol. Hold onto that 2nd nap as long as you can!

Usually he has a similar routine to your man Kiwikid except he gets up around 8.30 - 9am. When he goes down at 11 he normally sleeps for 2-3 hours. He has his second nap around 4pm which is for about an hour. I am really missing this one because it's usually when I get tea made.
Since we have done the single nap at 1pm the longest he has slept for was and hour and a half.

Samirah has just turned 1 and shes down to 1 nap a day to but its a biggie. Gets up bout 8 breakie, play bottle bout 10-1030 then bed sleeps till 3 then lunch straight away, play bath about 430 bottle and back to bed round 5-530. Dunno how it happened but thats just wat shes decided to do for the last few weeks, working well for us.

we're also transitioning from 2 to 1 nap, but for me it's great, because Natalie is a catnapper anyway, so she's only missing out on a 30min sleep in the afternoon (which has become a nightmare to get her down for, and stuffs up getting her to bed in the evening).
We've been trialling 1 nap for a couple of weeks, and I find after a few days of just 1 nap, she reverts to 2 naps for a few days.
She normally wakes 6-7am, has breastfeed and brekkie at about 8am, then the hardest part is getting her to last until about 11.30 - like kiwikid we give her a decent snack before naptime. She only sleeps 1-2 hours max, then we do lunch on her waking. She's always been good lasting in the afternoon but I have been making sure she has lots of snacks etc available to help get her through without a nap. I've also been doing an early dinner at 4.30-5pm, so she can be bathed, breastfed and asleep by 7pm latest.

i had no choice E changed his plans but partly cause of pre school where he wont sleep or sleeps 30 mins (he comes home at 12... from about 11.5 months till 12.5 he was some days one some days too...there was an awkward stage where one wasnt enough but i cant force him to have another he only goes to sleep when he is tired!
so for us about 12.5 months permanently.

So we went back to 2 naps today. Jaye went down at 11.30am for a hour then again at 4pm for a hour and a half. We have had a wonderful day . Thank you all for your feedback.
