Hey ladies, is anyone going to use a post-natal belt after delivery ? I am looking for one now to use for a first couple of weeks just for flattening and supporting my belly and helping the mussels to contract. Something like this one
Any idea where to find it in NZ?

Didn't want to just view and not post.

Personally, I didn't need (or want) a post natal belt after giving birth. It's not very common to wear one.

Maybe your midwife could source you one, or a pharmacist or physio?

i know that if you midwife thinks you need one they refer you to a physio and they give you one. My friend who had twins had to wear one for a while. She found it really uncomfortable - i wouldnt wear one out of choice.

At the hospital I got given a tube bandage to wear around my tummy. It helped heaps but wasnt too tight.
Maybe you could try something like that instead?

My mum's suggested getting the tummy support knickers and friends of mine have suggested actual wrapping (as in bandaging) but I'll just wait and see how things look afterward before going all out.

I don't know how far along you are but I'd be more inclined to try maternity pilates or yoga to strengthen your muscles. You shouldn't need a belt if you strengthen your core.

If you want something to support then you could look for one of those neoprene tummy band things that you find in the exercise area of a sports shop.

Hiya

Last time I bought some belly bands off TM a couple of sizes smaller - they worked well just to make me feel like I wasn't floppy. Didn't help much other than with self esteem, but I didn't carry large anyway.

This time - I have a neoprene exercise belt so will probably use that for a few days then the belly belts afterwards.

I know a lady that wrapped both times (family thing - the mother does it to the daughter etc) and it seemed to work for her, but who knows if that's just good genes or not

Hi, I would have loved this after birth rather than the tube bandage I was given by Physio BUT I had really bad seperation of my muscles due to being on bed rest for ages. That's the only reason I wore it which was really helpful in lifting my boys.

If you want to stop the big flabby tummy from showing then get one but if you are getting in case you have seperated muscles then wait & see after birth.
